Derek drives the #D48 Modified Class car. His home track is Bloomington Speedway, but can also be found racing at Brownstown Speedway and Lawrenceburg Speedway. He lives in Bloomington, IN.

Team members helping Derek are: Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother-in-law (Tony), and Brother (Ralph). Richard Groomer is the car owner.

Derek started racing in 1999 in the Go-Kart Class at West Boggs Park because his Dad and Brother raced and it is in his blood. His first win was in 2006 in the Modified Class at Lawrenceburg Speedway. Career highlights include Indy Indoors Champion at the age of 9 and 10, West Boggs Park Champion, Muncie Indoors Champion, Rumble In the Bluegrass Champion, Heavy and Lights, Burris So Tour Champion, 2003 Indiana Dirt Track Champion, multiple Feature wins, Rookie of the Year at Indiana Street Stocks, and 2006 Fun Fest Champion.

The thrill of racing for Derek is the excitement of getting strapped in and the competition. His most exciting moment was winning at Fun Fest in 2006. He is most proud of how well he has done.

Derek's racing hero is his brother Ralph and his Dad.
