John Mason drives the #72 Late Model Class
car. He lives in Millersburg, OH. His home track is Hill Top
Speedway but he can be found racing at several tracks and series.
He started racing in 1972 in the Late
Model Class at Hill Top Speedway because his Dad was a fan and went to the
races. His first win was in 1973 in the Late Model Class at
Lakeville Speedway. Career highlights include STARS National
Champion 1984-1987, Dirt Track World Championship in 1989, held the track
record for 7 years, 2 times World at Eldora, 1992-93 Springfield Mile, the
North-South Race at Florence, KY and is in the Dirt Late Model Hall of
Fame.
The thrill of racing for John is the
competition and winning. His most exciting racing moment was winning
the Dirt Track World Championship in 1989. He's most proud of being
respected by fellow drivers and wants them to say that he was a pretty
tough racer most days.
John's racing hero is Todd Gisson.
Of racing, John says, "Unless you have
seen a good dirt track race, you don't know what racing is. The
people involved in dirt track racing are the best there is!".
