EAST LINCOLN SPEEDWAY OPENER FALLS VICTIM TO WEATHER
STANLEY, N.C. (Saturday, April 5)–Racers and fans will have to wait at least one more week for the 2008 season opener at East Lincoln Speedway. A combination of already wet grounds and more inclement weather in the forecast forced track officials to reschedule the "Season Sampler" for Saturday, April 12, 7 p.m. The decision was made at 10 a.m today.
"The outlook was for one hundred percent precipitation throughout the day," said track manager James Honeycutt. "It’s our policy to make a call such as this as early as possible to avoid fans and competitors having unnecessary travel expenses."
Today’s delay marked the second consecutive year the 3/8-mile clay oval’s lid lifter has fell victim to Mother Nature.
Next Saturday’s program will include 200 laps of competition for Late Model Modified-Sportsman, Open Wheel Modified, Micro-Sprint, Stock Four, Rookie Four, Grand American and Stars of Tomorrow divisions.
In addition to the auto racing program, 1,500 ping pong balls will be dropped from the air in a special promotion for children present. Two hundred of the balls will be marked with the East Lincoln Speedway logo. Free gifts will be awaiting those that retrieve balls with the special marking.
East Lincoln Speedway is located at 1873 Mariposa Road, five miles east of Stanley.
