Street Stocks Strive for Big Purse Money
Gastonia, N.C. (April 25, 2008) – The “Bad Boy” Ben Watkins started the race fourth but weaved in and out of traffic in search of
victory lane for two-in-a-row.
“I love racin’ like this,” said the Rock Hill, S.C. native who
took the lead on lap 7. Chasing the “Bad Boy” were Timbo Mangum,
Mike Messer, David Carswell and Jerry Oliver, all of which were involved
in a 12-lap door-to-door battle.
Billy “The Kid” Thompson showed fans and drivers alike how
Carolina was won. The Belmont, N.C. hero took the lead on lap one against the
ultracompetitive Chad Paxton and he lead all 25 laps of the main
event. Following the 00 machine of Thompson across the stripe were Tim Allen, Brandon Ifft, Doug Sanders, and Andy Thompson. Greg Barker found victory for the first time at Carolina Speedway in
the GM Performance Late Model Series. Teddy Musgrave Jr., Matt Long,
Timbo Mangum, and Gary Puckett rounded out the top-five.
Shorty Lacey piloted his Renegade to victory lane yet again having
taken the lead on lap 1 he was never contested. Patrick Lyon moved from
the rear of the pack to finish second, driving the wheels off of his O1
machine. He was followed by Chester Thomas and Allen Sterling.
In stock 4 action Shannon Barnhill took the lead on lap one while a
second through fourth place battle turned up the heat. Jerry Oliver
eventually claimed second with Bob Hill, Evan Benton and Jamie Seymour all
bumper-to-bumper.
Brain Stang Claimed victory in the pure stock 4 class followed by
Wayne Curtis, Brian Nufer, Brian Mullis and Johnathan Petrea.
Carolina Speedway will be back in action next week with a special
event featuring the GM Performance Late Model’s. Spectator Gates open at
5:00 p.m. and tickets are just $12.00 for adults and children over 11.
Hot laps will begin promptly at 7:30 with the heat races and main
events to follow.
