Carolina Clash Heads to Lancaster (SC) Speedway This Saturady Night March 15th
LANCASTER, SC – The Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series is set to kick off their 2008 racing season this Saturday night at Lancaster Speedway with a $5,000 to win 50 lap main event.
The season was supposed to get underway last weekend but inclement weather forced the postponement of Carolina Speedway’s event.
A large car count is expected at the ultra-fast half mile on Saturday night. Four-time and defending series champion Ricky Weeks and Dennis ‘Rambo’ Franklin split the pair of Clash wins last season at Lancaster and will be favorites again this weekend.
"Lancaster is one of the most exciting and unique race tracks I have ever been to," said Clint Elkins, Carolina Clash Series Director. "That place has the most character and the most energetic fans in dirt racing. They have a sign at the gate that reads, 'Through these gates walk the world’s greatest race fans', and that speaks volumes for the fans of Lancaster Speedway. The track itself is super fast and should provide some of the most exciting racing we will see all year."
Lancaster Speedway is one of the oldest race tracks in the country. Under the leadership of Doug and Sharon McManus their have been several improvements made to the facility over the last couple of years, including playgrounds for kids and paved parking areas for the racers.
Over the last 52 years several NASCAR legends have competed on the big half mile. In 1957, Paul Goldsmith and Speedy Thompson took home victories in NASCAR sanctioned Grand National events.
Also on the card for Saturday night will be the Fastrak Crate Late Models, Super Street, Pure Street and Four Cylinders. The Fastrak race will pay $1,000 to the winner. Pit gates open at 3:00 PM with the grandstand gates opening at 4:00. Drivers meeting will be at 5:30 with racing at 6:00 PM.
