STANLEY, N.C.–-Nearly two dozen race cars, a packed parking lot and the largest crowd ever of race fans, competitors, local residents and passerby motorists attended the annual East Lincoln Speedway Race Car Show, Saturday morning.

"We had to park cars in the grass along highway sixteen and across the street at the fish camp as Triangle Plaza could not accommodate the larger than expected crowd that showed up," said track manager James Honeycutt. "If the car show was any indicator to judge the upcoming season on, it’s going to be a record year."

Brett Myers (Stanley) was awarded first place in the Stars of Tomorrow division. Top honors in the Late Model Modified-Sportsman class went to Jeff Mundwiler (Statesville). Dylan O’Daniel (Dallas) was the choice in Rookie Four competition. The Stock Four trophy was won by Adam Vandiver (Stanley). Blane Huffman (Denver) grabbed top spot in the Open Wheel Modified division. Micro-Srpint hardware winner was Travis Daniel (Matthews). Tracy Tapley (Kannapolis) was cream of the Grand American Stock Car crop. Best of Show honors were claimed by Mundwiler.

This coming Saturday, March 29 the East Lincoln Speedway parking lot will host a Racer’s Swap Meet with free admission beginning at 10 a.m.

At 1 p.m. Saturday the track will be open for a practice session for all divisions that compete weekly at the 3/8-mile clay oval. The grandstand will be open free of charge to the public.

The 2008 season for weekly Saturday night activities will begin Saturday, April 5th at 7 p.m.

East Lincoln Speedway is located at 1873 Mariposa Road, five miles east of Stanley.
