STANLEY, N.C. (Monday, March 31)–Auto racing fans can get a taste of what’s in store for them during the coming year when East Lincoln Speedway inaugurates its 2008 season at 7 p.m. Saturday night (April 5th).

Billed as the "Season Sampler" the 200 laps of competition will offer racing in seven divisions: Late Model Modified-Sportsman, Open Wheel Modified, Stock Four, Rookie Four, Micro-Sprint, Stars of Tomorrow and Grand American Stock Car. Total car count for the classes combined is expected to be between 90 and 100.

East Lincoln Speedway’s general manger James Honeycutt said that there was a two-fold purpose in making the decision to call the program "Season Sampler".

"For one thing it’s the first race of the season and we know that race fans are hungry for some action," Honeycutt said. "More importantly, however, is that this race will provide fans with a sample of what they can expect at East Lincoln Speedway during the regular season."

Apparently there will be a lot to look forward to. In addition to steps the management has taken over the winter months to reduce costs and heighten competition for participants, extensive renovations to the facility have been undertaken. All buildings have been repainted along with retaining walls. Numerous loads of new red clay has been trucked in and added to the racing surface.

"We’re committed to providing a better racing plant and program in 2008," Honeycutt said. We will continue to build on our reputation of having a family entertainment facility."

The East Lincoln Speedway is located at 1873 Mariposa Road, five miles east of Stanley.
