Carswell Makes It Two In A Row At
Morganton, [4-06-2008] Brian Carswell, No. 4C, from Morganton
won his second consecutive Late Model race Sunday afternoon at Antioch
Speedway. Due to a rain out on Saturday night track owners decided to
try a Sunday afternoon race. Buddy Smith, No. 47, took the lead as the
green flag waved with Carswell close behind. Carswell dropped under
Smith coming off turn four on the fifth lap and beat him to turn one to
take the lead. Carswell easily took his Ford to victory lane. Smith
second. Chris Cheeks, No. 99C, struggled with overheating problems the
last few laps but managed to finish third. Neal Pitts, No. 21P, finished
fourth and Pat Lindsey, No. 21L, finished fifth.
Shane Harris, No. 38, from Marion led flag to flag winning the
Super Stock V-8 event. Last race winner Freddie Frady, No. 01, finished
second. Jason Ledford, No. 14, came from dead last to finish third.
Rodney Lail, No. 2, overcame an early race spin to finish fourth. Duke
Bare, No. 52, who moved up from Renegades took home fifth place.
Steve Annas, No. 7A, from Morganton led from start to finish and
outdueled Richard Vasser, No.74, to take the victory in the Super Stock
Four event. Vasser finished a close second. Ed Brittain, No. 57,
finished third and Keith Teague, No. 0, finished fourth.
Richard Vasser, No. 8, from Morganton led flag to flag easily
winning the Pure Stock Four race. Jeff Parsons, No. NC4, passed Mike
Benfield, No. 17, on the fifth lap to take second. Benfield crossed the
line in third but was disqualified when he was found to be running a
header at post race inspection. Harry Anderson, No. 2B, was awarded
third. Bill Mintz, No. 1, finished fourth. Ernest Anthony, No. 2A,
AJ Parsons, No. NC4, from Harmony, outdueled JW Hicks, No. 15,
to take home the victory in the Young Guns event. Hicks a close second.
