Ray started racing in 1979 in the Late Model Class at Peoria Speedway because he raced motorcycles and his Father raced cars.  His parents wanted him in a car because they felt it was much safer than bikes.  His first win was in 1982 in the Late Model Class at Quad City Speedway.  Career highlights include NASCAR Central Region Champion in 1989, '90, '91 & '95, NASCAR Busch All Star Tour Champion in 1999.
