Some Drivers Thoughts on John Blewett III:

Ron Silk
Ron Silk will start the John Blewett III Memorial 76 lap feature event tonight at New Smyrna fourth.
"I'm pretty good friends with Jimmy- I didn't know John all that well since I was just getting going in racing when John passed away. I did know him enough to know he was a really good guy- hopefully we can win tonight to honor him."

Eric Goodale
Fresh off a second place finish at the UNOH Battle at the Beach at Daytona, Eric Goodale will take the green this evening on the outside front row next to pole sitter Woody Pitkat. "I never raced with John, my brother did. The number one thing I remember when I watched him race was he was a hell of a race car driver. The best thing you can do is go out there tonight and drive a clean race like John would want you do. I got to speak with him off the track when I was younger and he was always nice to me.”

“If the winner of this race, if they could take something away from this event, just do it clean and do it the right way- that's what he was all about."

Woody Pitkat
Woody Pitkat will be carrying something special tonight in the John Blewett III Memorial 76 lap feature event tonight at New Smyrna Speedway. His firesuit carries the III symbol on the back just above the Hillybillies Racing in honor of John and has instead of an angel on his gold chain, it holds a JB III pendant. "I always looked up to John because he was the kind of person that worked on his own cars and set them up. I'm kind of the same way- that was the way I was brought up- go to the shop and work on the car, not just show up and drive. I had a lot of respect for him because of that. “

“One of my best memories was when we went to Las Vegas when I finished 2nd or 3rd in the nation, we all went out to eat at a buffett- John and his girlfriend were with us- we just had a great time- the time we spent together there, that's something I'll always cherish."

"The last words I had were with his girlfriend the day he passed- she said how mad he was because we had gone out to Riverhead and didn't qualify- John was really mad I didn't call and ask him for help with the set up for qualifying because he always loved those little bullrings. I have a lot of respect for him- loved to watch him race- I'm really good friends with Jimmy- we cried that night on the phone. Obiviously it would be a huge deal to win tonight - we'll be trying as hard as we can."

2/16/2013 Notes from Night #4:

On Saturday February 16th, Chuck Hossfeld qualified second and started the modified 35 lap feature race fifth. Hossfeld took the lead on lap 6 and held on to it to take the win

By lap 10 Matt Hirschman had made his way into second and raced Hossfeld hard for the lead. But Hirschman was one spot shy of the win as he completed the race in second. “That was an excellent race. Matty is a great racer. We put a great show on for the fans. Any time you can come down here and be best for that day is always gratifying. I was very pleased with the win. Hopefully we can continue with being fast.”

Chuck Hossfeld will be running full time at New Smyrna Speedway defending his 2012 championship and did not have a car at the UNOH Battle At The Beach. “It just was not in the cards for me to go to the big track on Tuesday to race for a couple of reasons. But mostly I wanted to see how it would shake down the first time.”
