Notes:

J.R. Bertuccio
A left rear tire down during qualifying sent Bertuccio around as he came out of turn 4. The crew spent the time prior to the Richie Evans Memorial 100 making repairs for the main event. "My day didn't go quite as planned," said Bertucco. "We blew a left rear and I spun around tearing the back of the car up. We replaced some back bumper supports and nerf bars, we'll be ready."

This team worked really hard putting this car back together so it could race tonight.

"We've been coming down here 15 years, since I've started racing. It's part of the routine, we enjoy it, we get to run half a season while we're here- it works out well. Normally we run a lot better but this is a brand new car. It's my first Troyer- we made a change this year and we just haven't figured it out yet. I think we have it half way decent for tonight so we'll see."
Strategy for the 100 laps tonight? "Going to try to put no tires on it, but we'll see how the car runs. If I'm hanging on and running in the back we'll put tires on and see what we can do."

J.R. will run on the WSMT IN 2013.

Danny Watts
The driver from Riverhead, NY made a decision to get back into racing - with the kids grown, he is putting his free time into his two modifieds.

"We're just trying to shake out the rust, it's been a long time since I've really been racing. The last time I was here was 20 years ago. I just started back up in June, ran at Riverhead and then I went to Mountain Speedway for a couple."

"It's been great here at New Smyrna- a couple of silly things happened- a couple of ignition problems, we had to replace MSD's, coils and then the super damper broke on the front of the motor- I had to have it overnighted- we just got it at 11:30 this morning- I'm hoping the thing stays together."
About 8 laps of practice- Watts is looking forward to the extra distance race tonight. "I got nothing to lose, we'll see what happens." Prior to his runs last summer, it had been 12 years since Watts took to a racetrack. When asked about his plans for the 2013 season? Watts smiled, "still up in the air."

It would be nice to see this team run a couple of WMT events in 2013 or a couple of shows at Riverhead Speedway.

Burt Myers
Wednesday night Burt Myers ran the 35 lap modified event to shake out add tune the car for tonight’s 100 lap feature race.

“I love the race track and I love coming here. But it seems like we have yet to figure this track out. We just have been fighting really tight conditions since we got here. We threw a whole bunch of stuff at it Wednesday night to use that as a test for tonight. So hopefully we learnt some things. The car was terrible. But it is like what a guy told me one time “If you learn what not to do that is good because you have still learned. But we are going to put two and two together to make something out of it tonight. “

Thoughts on the Existing Gear Rule?
Burt Myers
“I am not a big fan of a gear rule. Because of the motor/carburetor package that we run, it does not do you any good to turn that much RPMs. So you have a gear rule without it being officiated. You should not have to mandate it because you cannot determine some of the RPMs anyways. It just makes it tough to come with a Ford down here because it takes about 30 more points a gear to run to make the same power as a Chevrolet does. So when we come down here we are pretty flat on our straight away. It just makes us have to work harder to get through the corners so that it helps us through the straight away. To lift that gear rule or just open it up a little bit because it is hard for us to come here and be competitive. That is the way that it is.”

Burt will run on the WSMT and Bowman-Gray Stadium in 2013.

Jason Myers
Wednesday night Jason Myers completed the 35 lap modified race in tenth place. But the Myers team was here to get the #4 car in shape for tonight’s 100 lap feature race.

“I love this race track. It is supper fun to drive on. But, they have a terrible gear rule down here and it is really killing us. I put my backup motor in after Daytona. We broke our good motor at Daytona. Yes the gear rule is really killing our horse power down here. It is just hard to keep up with those top four or five cars. If we get a long green flag run, we are real good in a long green compared to the lead cars. Their times fall off a whole lot more than mine due. Tire wear is that not crucial to us. I wish they would not allow us to change tires. I would like to run 100 laps with no pit stop. You can change two tires if you want. It has been a long week. We just want to stay out of trouble and take it home in one piece.”

Jason will run on the WSMT and Bowman-Gray Stadium in 2013.
