Rowan Pennink Wins Monadnock Speedways VMRS “Spring Dash 100”

Picture

4/20/2013

Rowan Pennink from Huntington Valley, PA raced to his 8th career win on the VMRS @ Monadnock Speedway in Winchester, NH Saturday night.

Pennink had this to say in victory lane. “We had to see how the race was going to play out. Brian (Crowley-Spotter)) and I together stayed patient. We didn’t use up the car too much. Kept the tires under it and waited for a caution. The race played right into our hands. Want to thank all the guys on the Roscoe Racing team for an awesome job.”

Pennink had to hold off the hard charging 9 of Tommy Barrett, of Millis, MA who started 11th. Barrett tried to get under Pennink coming out of turn 4, but had to settle for 2nd.

Barrett: “Our usual strategy is to lay back in the field and come in to swap tires. We went 52 laps without a caution. Decided to ride around in the front. I thought I had something for him. (Pennink) Thought I could get around him but he was doing a good job holding me off. I’ll take it after Waterford and move on from here and hope for a good finish at Thompson.”

Pennink came from 13th staring spot to take the lead on lap 94 from 24 Todd Patnode,of Richmond, NH after a caution for the 18 of Eddy Spiers who spun out in turn 2.

Patnode a part time competitor on the VMRS and local favorite was well on his way to a win as he took the lead on lap 72 from the 79 Max Zachem, of Preston, CT, but the caution ended his ten car length lead and his hope for a win. Penninks car was really coming on strong, but the late race cautions really helped him.

At the drop of the green flag the 0 of Dale Holdridge, of Madison, CT took the lead from pole sitter Zachem and lead the first 50 laps before Zachem took over. Zachem lead until lap 72 when Patnode took over the top spot on a restart.

Big time local favorite 28 Dwight Jarvis, of Ascutney, VT never got his chance to race. The Ascutney, VT, driver was to begin his 40th season but was involved in a needless qualifying heat skirmish that sidelined him from the event with heavy damage.

26 cars entered the event with 25 cars starting.

Monadnock is a great little Speedway with a lot of Modified history. The WMT makes its only appearance at Monadnock Speedway on May11. A MUST SEE EVENT.
