Race Date 6/22/2013:

The Whelen Modified Tour heads to the Waterford Speedbowl in Waterford, CT for race # 4 of the 2013 season this Saturday night.

Special thanks go out to Vic Beedle who owns MR. ROOTER PLUMBING for sponsoring the event. The 161 lap event honors the late Modified Great Richie Evans.

With sponsorship from Mr. Rooter Plumbing for the 2nd year in a row the 52 of Doug Coby will be looking to repeat as the race winner. Coby of Milford, CT held of a hard charging 16 Ryan Preece of Berlin, CT for the win in 2012.

25 regular WMT teams will be joined by 3 drivers making their WMT 2013 debut.

Keith Rocco from Wallingford, CT a 2-time SK Modified Champion at the Speedbowl (2010 & 2011) with 44 SK wins and the WMT Rookie of the Year in 2012 will start his first race on the tour in 2013. Driving the #8 Sypher Construction Toyota owned by Mark Sypher and maintained by Boehler Racing. Rocco is the 2012 Connecticut State Whelen All- American Series Champion.

Shawn Solomito from Islip, NY will also be making his first start of the season on the WMT. Solomito hopes to race back to back on the WMT by running next week at his home track Riverhead Raceway on Long Island, NY. Shawn will be driving his family owned #89 Cystic Fibrosis Fdn./Acme Sanitary Chevrolet at Waterford. Solomito is the 2012 Riverhead Raceway Champion as well as the New York State Whelen All- American Series Champion. This kid has a lot of talent and races a real smooth style.

Last but not least former track Champion and Supermodified driver Robbie Summers from Manchester, CT will be making his first start on the WMT in 2013. Driving the #5 Hitchcock Pool Water/Hoosier Tire Dodge for car owner Kelly Iverson.

Ron Yuhas Jr. out of Groton, CT is also a former track champion in the SK Modified Division @ Waterford and will be driving the #64 Fast Track Electric/Scorpion Const. Chevrolet owned by Mike Murphy.

Last year this race looked like a sell out and I hope this year’s event is well attended again.

Three teams are off to a slow start the 2 of Todd Szegedy 15th in the standings, 58 Eric Goodale 18th and the 64 of Eric Berndt 22nd.
