What a racing weekend! With all the NASCAR Series racing
all weekend long here In Indianapolis. The Brickyard 400 is on
TV as I am listening to it in the background. If your a true
racefan that supports most divisions of racing here in the
midwest I guess Indianapolis is the racing capitol and mecca of
the world? The Indianapolis 500 and the Brickyard 400 do get all
the coverage in the world so I am not gonna recap it here! I am
all about OUR weekly short track racers that feed NASCAR
eventually. I will never be satisfied that our weekly short
track drivers get enough coverage as it is. I do as much as I
can as I have recorded interviews with veteran Figure 8 drivers
Jeff Shackelford and Jeff Hizer. Shackelford and Hizer live in
the Indianapolis area and I hope to see both of them compete at
the next IOFS International Outlaw Figure 8 Series event at
Plymouth (IN) Speedway on Saturday night August 15th!
Saturday Night I went to Mt. Lawn (IN) Speedway and
witnessed an absolute war of a race in the Thundercar Feature
between Ryan Amonett and last week's Feature winner Tony
Stewart. The two drivers waged battle for 10 to 15 laps side by
side with Ryan Amonett finally making the pass for the win.
Jason Atkinson won his 1st Late Model Feature of 2009 at
Mt. Lawn (IN) Speedway Saturday night. Jason ran very well last
week in the Raintree 100 for Late Models. Jason seems to be
really dialing that car in good and he may eventually be a
threat to the Late Model points lead currently being held by LJ
lines.
This will be old news in MAARN but this Monday Night is
the Redbud 300 CRA Super Series Late Model race at Anderson (IN)
Speedway which is July 27th 2009. Harold Fair and Kyel Busch are
scheduled to race in the 300 lap event. I am hoping some of the
veteran ASA drivers will show up to meet the fans. Maybe David
Stremme will show up as well? I am really looking forward to
this race! I hope someone sells ASA vintage programs and
souvenirs which would be nice for us devoted racefans.
Brian Reynolds really impressed me winning both the
Hornet Trophy Dash and Heat race Saturday NIght at Mt. Lawn
Speedway. Shaun Williams also a new impressive driver in the
hornet division walked away with the Hornet Feature Satuday
Night.
Coming Saturday August 1st at Mt. Lawn (IN) Speedway
will be the Founders Day 100 Thundercar feature paying 1,000 to
win. Late Models and Hornets will run as support classes this
Saturday night at Mt. Lawn Speedway. The racing at Mt. Lawn has
been awesome all season long with the double file restart
format! The cheeseburgers, french fries and onion rings in the
concession stand at Mt. Lawn are awesome! One nice thing about
Mt. Lawn if you want to sit in bleachers you can or you can
bring a blanket and lawn chairs and sit in the turns!
Also on Saturday night August 1st is a Thundercar 200
Lap Enduro paying $3,000 to win! The FWD Oval and Figure 8
Divisions,Thunder Roadsters and Legends will round out the
program at Anderson.
Good news from Montpelier (IN) Speedway as they have
been trying to get Super Late Models back on the weekly racing
card at the 1/4 mile clay oval. There have been many message
board posts on
www.4m.net trying to drum up interest and support from
fans, crewmen, and drivers of Super Late Models in the Indiana
area. I hope they are successful as we need a few more weekly
late model shows in this area to attend. I have been to
Montpelier (IN) Speedway a few times as they run a weekly show
of UMP Modifieds,Modlites,Super Stocks,Late Models,and
Thundercars. Please support this track as they are running these
5 divisions on Saturday August 1st! I would like to see
Montpelier Speedway and Union County (IN) Speedway work together
and have a twin track points deal with Union County already
running every Friday Night! If you have any news, notes,or
comments please email me at
indybear37@yahoo.com. Gotta Go See You At The Races!!!
