Indianapolis,IN By Tom Botos 10-18-09
Hey Racefans I would like to congratulate Ryan
Amonett on his winning of the 2009 Mt. Lawn (IN)
Speedway Thundercar Track Championship. I have seen Ryan
struggle a bit last season in 2008 but he came back in
strong fashion and won more Thundercar Features than
anyone else in the division and his battles with the #
20 of Tony Stewart from Straughn (IN) were classics. I
hope that Ryan and Tony Return to do battle again at Mt.
Lawn in 2010!
Congratulations are also in order for Doug Greig
from Indianapolis who won the 2009 Innaugural IOFS
International Outlaw Figure 8 Points Championship and
also won the Season Championship Figure 8 at Anderson
(IN) Speedway. The IOFS Series promises to have a few
new tracks added to the 2010 Schedule with longer races
and more double weekend shows back to back!
I had the pleasure of talking to Mike Gibson the
promoter of the Sportsdrome Speedway in
Jeffersonville,Indiana awhile back and he is a very nice
guy to chat with and I could tell he is devoted to
racing and his car counts being high for a weekly
racetrack on Saturday Nights proves he is doing
something right! I hope to get back to the Sportsdrome
(IN) Speedway in 2010!
I also plan to hit Gas City (IN) Speedway in
2010 as well they run a fast efficient program there and
they are nice and cordial to me everytime I am there and
that goes a long way! The UMP Modifieds and the Sprints
put on a whale of a show at Gas City on Friday Nights.
My work has my shift changed to 7am to 345 pm so I am
not sure how many shows I can attend on Fridays but I do
Congratulations to Steve Stacy on his 1st CRA
Sportsman Victory at Anderson Speedway a few weeks back!
The CRA Sportsman is a very competitive division with
many talented drivers from tracks all over the midwest
and the races I have seen just keep getting better and
Winchester (IN) Speedway hosted the Motion
Motors Late Models the premiere division from Mt. Lawn
(IN) Speedway a few weeks back and Fred Hopkins in his
#99 Late Model won the event. The Motion Motors Late
Models put on a very good show at Winchester with
veteran drivers Terry Cater and L.J. running very well
and I hope to see Jason Atkinson do very well in 2010 in
CRA Sportsman as it looks like he has a brand new
template sportsman car. I look for Jason Atkinson to do
great things in 2010!
Derrick Griffin from Plymouth,Indiana won the
CRA Sportsman race at Winchester Speedway on Saturday
Oct. 17th. I have seen Derrick win several Sportsman
Features at Plymouth (IN) Speedway in 2009. Derrick is a
good driver and I have a feeling he will be a force to
contend with in the 2010 CRA Sportsman Division. Bobby
Blount is Derrick Griffin's car owner and with his
guidance there may be no stopping Derrick in the future!
There are still a few races left if you are
dreading winter as much as I am! Coming Saturday Oct.
24th will be UMP Super Stocks and UMP Pure Stocks at
Twin Cities Raceway Park in North Vernon,Indiana. Twin
Cities Raceway Park is a very family friendly track with
good racing and decent affordable prices on food at the
concession stand. Coolers are allowed at TCRP which to
me is a very nice thing for racefans who cannot afford
high prices on food items.
On Sunday Oct. 25th is the Halloween 200 for
Street Stocks where up to 100 cars can start this race
three wide! Salem has great food prices and great racing
and I cannot think of a better way to close out the 2009
racing season than with a 200 lap enduro! Oh by the way
the Halloween 200 is at the famous Salem (IN) Speedway!
Last but not least is the Monster Mash Races at
Montpelier (IN) Motor Speedway in Montpelier,Indiana.
UMP Modifieds,Super Stocks,Modified Lites,and
Thundercars will all compete during the Monster Mash at
Montpelier Motor Speedway on Saturday Night October
31st! For more information on this
event go to
