Indianapolis,IN By Tom Botos 10-27-09
Well racefans there are three races left
to my knowledge in the midwest that will wrap up
the 2009 racing season! Montpelier Motor
Speedway in Montpelier,Indiana is Hosting there
Monster Mash Races with Modifieds,Modfied
Lites,Super Stocks and Thundercars this Saturday
Oct. 31st. Racing begins at 4PM so that racefans
wont get so cold with these cooler fall
temperatures we have been struggling with. For
more information on this event and the track
please go to
www.montpeliermotorspeedway.com . Lincoln
Park (IN) Speedway is hosting there Open Wheel
Racin- Fest this Saturday Oct. 31st with racing
at 6PM. They are running Sprints,Modifieds,Super
Stocks, and Bombers with open rules for outside
bombers from tracks like Brownstown,Lawrenceburg
and Paragon Speedways. For detailed information
on this event please go to
http://lincolnparkspeedway.homestead.com/ .
Twin Cities Raceway Park in North
Vernon,Indiana is hosting there Hornet Nationals
paying $300 to win for Hornets plus UMP Super
Stocks and UMP Pure Stocks and Cruisers. Racing
begins at TCRP at 6PM as well. For information
please go to
http://www.twincitiesracing.net/ . I wish
these races were not all on teh same day but
rain canceled out Lincoln Park and Twin Cities
both last weekend so it could not be helped but
I think all three tracks will have very big car
counts with the vast majority of area tracks not
running!
The IOFS International Outlaw Figure 8
Series Banquet/Racers Party is Saturday Night
Nov. 14th with Karaoke, door prizes, awards and
trophies will be presented to drivers as well.
If you would like to purchase a $10.00 Ticket
and attend this event call Lou Anne Hargraves at
(317) 357-2227. Check out the IOFS on the web at
http://www.iofsracing.com/ .
www.racesontheweb.com is a neat website that
offers pay per view short track auto racing from
tracks in Michigan and also Arena Racing events
that will be shown on
www.racesontheweb.com as well. Racesontheweb
has a 24/7 free channel with short track racing
from tracks like Crystal Motors Speedway in
Michigan amd Thunderbird Motor Speedway in
Muskegon,Michigan. On Monday Nights is The
Racing Show hosted by George Keen which is
currently a live monthly racing show but during
racing season is on every Monday Night on
racesontheweb.com. On Wednesday Nights is Race
Talk LIve with Ed Inloes and Larry Loynes both
are track announcers from tracks like Spartan
(MI) Speedway and Auto City (MI) Speedway. I
have called in this show and talked to both of
these guys as this show is from 7PM to 9PM on
Wednesday Evenings.
www.stockcarextreme.com is a messageboard
that i visit often and there are tons and tons
of pictures of cars and tracks in the photo
section as well as racing columns from great
columnists like Larry Guise and Ron Verash.
Larry goes to Super Late Model events all over
the midwest and gives his perspective on many
great racing events that I cannot attend myself.
Ron Verash is a great columnist and he sells old
racing pictures and memorabilia at many Michiana
tracks in the Michigan,Indiana,Ohio racing area.
I am hearing rumors that Kamp Motor
Speedway in Boswell,Indiana may not reopen 2010?
I do know that they canceled a few racing events
at the end of there 2009 racing schedule. I hope
this is one big false rumor as I hate to see any
of our tracks close! Shady Hill (IN) Speedway is
dropping there Super Street class in favor of
the UMP Street Stocks which now run at tracks
like Gas City (IN) Speedway and Kokomo (IN)
Speedway. The UMP Street Stocks were dropped at
Montpelier Motor Speedway earlier in 2009 due to
low car counts so we will see what happens at
Shady Hill in 2010.
The CRA Super Series,Street Stocks and
Sportsman will be in action this weekend at the
Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville,TN. This very
could be the last CRA event at the track as
there are rumors that it may shut down during
the summer of 2010. I have never been to this
track and I really hope we dont lose this
historic track that has hosted so many legendary
ASA All American 400 races in the past.
Congrats to Chuck Barnes for winning the
Halloween 200 at Salem (IN) Speedway last Sunday
Afternoon. A three car melee took out #00 Brett
Hudson, #9 Todd Kempf and the #06 of Beau
Mitchell all running in the top ten when the
melee occurred. It was cool seeing CRA drivers
Johnny Magee and Rich Boyer both famous Anderson
Speedway track champions finish in the top ten
of the grueling Halloween 200! #95 Brian Hopkins
was running very well until he was caught in a
huge wreck on the back stretch which ended his
night. Brian is a very talented up and coming
driver and I wish him better luck in 2010!
To keep up with all midwestern area
figure 8 racing go to
www.race8.com and
http://www.iofsracing.com/ . Both have great
messageboards as well as galleries of pictures
and youtube figure 8 races from tracks like
Anderson (IN) Speedway.
If you are interested in Racing Books
and DVDs of races and want to expand your racing
knowledge then go to
http://www.coastal181.com/ . There are tons
and tons of Auto Racing books and DVDs there
showcasing and highlighting some of the biggest
stars and tracks in American Short Track Racing.
It is truly amazing how you can literally go
broke with all the books you can buy on this
website covering all types of tracks and racing
divisions.
With temperatures being very cold at the
last few races I have attended I decided to skip
my Midwest Racing Fan Of The Week and Driver Of
The Week features probably until the 2010 racing
season. Any news, notes or comments please email
me at
indybear37@yahoo.com Gotta Go See Ya at The
Races!
