Well Racefans is that football time of year again unfortunately. I think alot of racetracks close early  due to the popularity of High School and College Football as well as NFL Football dominating Sunday Afternoon daytime programming. I have seen for myself the crowds have gone down at the tracks since football season started. I am just thankful that track owners and promoters try to schedule races against football games as I am not a huge fan of football myself. I am lucky I guess by living in Indianapolis I am kind of central and there are races left up through October 31st if your willing to travel a litle bit! I have often wondered what it would be like to live in the Sunshine State of Florida where I hear they race almost year around if you count the February Speedweek events which are so popular for your die-hard weekly short track fans! If I lived in Florida I probably would go to races year around if my budget permitted it. The only downside to this is I would not have the winter months to save any money to spend during racing season! I tend to not spend as much money on entertainment during the winter months allowing me to spend more on fuel and hotel rooms for summertime racing events. I should ask the drivers when I interview them if they save any money during the offseason or is all there money spent building and rebuilding new and old cars for the upcoming season?
Last weekend I ventured to the Sportsdrome (IN) Speedway in Jeffersonville,Indiana. The racing program itself was partially rained out Saturday Night Sept. 26th. The rest of the racing program was run the next day on Sunday Sept. 27th. The racing is always good at this speedway and the Dromer Oval Feature Saturday Night was full of racing action. The Sportsdrome Speedway has the Extreme Winged Figure 8 division and the Extreme Oval Division along with the Dromer Oval and Dromer Figure 8 Divisions along with the FWD Division to provide the weekly racing action on Saturday Nights. Ben Tunny won the 50 Lap Outlaw Figure 8 Saturday Night as he is the 2009 World Figure 8 Champion from the Indianapolis IN Speedrome! I am sure we will see Ben Tunny in action again and maybe this hot streak will continue as Anderson (IN) Speedway hosts there final IOFS Outlaw Figure 8 Series event of 2009 on Saturday October 10th.
Sportsdrome (IN) Speedway has The World Figure 8 300 Weekend this Friday and Saturday October 9th and 10th. The Chuck Winders Memorial 100 oval race headlines Friday Nights portion of the racing  program along with qualifying heat races for the Extreme Winged Figure 8 cars competing in the World 300. This should be an awesome weekend of racing with Mike Gibson the Promoter of Sportsdrome Speedway inviting Street Stock Oval cars  from the CRA Street Stock Series and from nearby tracks like Salem (IN) Speedway to run in this soon to be annual event the Chuck Winders Memorial 100. The World 300 should attract Figure 8 cars from the Indianapolis area and the Anderson Indiana area. For more information on the World 300 racing weekend go to .
Eldora (OH) Speedway Hosts the Pak- A- Sac UMP Fall Nationals for UMP Late Models and UMP Modifieds on Friday and Saturday October 9th and 10th. Eldora (OH) Speedway always offers good racing with excellent car counts so if you like dirt in your beer and want some Octoberfest style racing off the highbanks then pack you a cooler and head to the legendary Eldora Speedway!
Congratulations to Steve Ott winning a thrilling Sprint Car Feature Friday Night at Gas City (IN) Speedway! Steve Ott started in 6th place and used the high side groove to his advantage to win the final 2009 Sprint Car Feature at Gas City I-69 Speedway. Fans witnessed five or six sprint car flips in a wet and wild final night of racing at Gas City! Scott Orr won the UMP Modified Feature and the 2009 UMP Modified Championship At Gas City Speedway. James Headley won another UMP Street Stock Feature and Corey Johnson won the final Thundercar Feature at Gas City in 2009.
