By Tom Botos and the date 3-14-09
on March 14th 2009 was the 14th annual Bench Racer's Weekend At
the Crowne Plaza Hotel here in Indianpolis,Indiana. Racefans
went on Racer's Shop Tours and had Lunch and Dinner together and
listened to Steve Chassey as he was guest speaker after dinner
on Saturday Evening. From 12 noon on all day racefans and
historians sat and "bench raced" chatting about the good ole
days of racing gone by! A great time was had by all as i chatted
and met with Mutt Anderson who was crew chief for Everett Saylor
who won the 1937 CSRA Big Car Championship. Mutt Anderson also
chatted with several fans and drivers including Sonny Meyer a
relative of Louie Meyer a former winner of the Indianapolis 500.
There were several vendors on hand including Tom
W. Williams author of "The Ghosts Of Jungle Park
History,Myth, and Legend" selling copies of his 2nd Edition Book.
Ted knorr also had his Racing Collectibles booth set up where
yours truly bought many Jungle Park photos as I am totally
captivated by that tracks history! Coming September 26th 2009
will be the Jungle Park Speedway reunion in Rockville ,Indiana.
If you have not been to Jungle Park I urge you to "wander"Indiana
and see a great part of our Indiana Racing History!
