Indianapolis,IN By Tom botos 5-26-09
Hi racefans I hope you all had a pleasant and relaxing
Memorial Day weekend! My weekend was totally awesome as Friday I
went to the National Auto Racing Memorabilia Show held at the
Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianpolis,IN.It was my first time
attending this event which had tons and tons of racing pictures
and souvenirs on display and on sale. I took some photos of the
event that I will include with this article. I bought some
photos of drivers that have raced at Jungle Park (IN) Speedway
and Ft. Wayne (IN) Speedway. Many of these same drivers raced in
the C.S.R.A Big Car Racing Series. These "big cars" are now
called Sprints. I need to buy frames for them so I can add them
to my collection on the walls!
Dick Wallen was there with his collection of very
impressive racing books that covered USAC The United States Auto
Club,Big Cars,Midgets and Touring Series for sprints and midgets
through the years.Buzz Rose was not present....I was hoping to
meet him as I own a few of his books.
Ted Knorr, former promoter of Rennsalaer (IN) Speedway
and Warsaw (IN) Speedway was in attendance and I should request
an interview with Ted has a huge photo library of racers from
the past.
I met Dale Weis from
www.stockcarextreme
and Ron Verash the promoter of the Dick Beebe Memorial Race at
South bend Motor Speedway on Sunday afternoon. I also met
Dennis Woods the webmaster for Plymouth (IN) Speedway.
Friday Night I went to the Siver Crown race known as the
Hoosier Hundred. at the Indiana State Fair.
Man! those big cars fly!Shane Hollingsworth won his 1st ever
Hoosier hundred race ath the Indiana State fairgrounds Friday
Night as a packed House of fans looked on.
Saturday Night was the Jim Blount Memorial race at
Plymouth (IN) Speedway. Seventeen Late models started the race
that was won by Tyler Roarig. I believe this may have been his
first win in a Late Model. The racing at Plymouth is fast and
furious just as I have remembered it!
Sunday Night was the Dick Beebe Memorial Race being held
in May this year.Shane Sanders won a hot battle with Rich Boal
and Bobby Stremme to win the Late Model Feature at SouthBend
Motor Speedway.91 cars jammed the pits and all cars qualified
and all race winners received trophies and photos taken in front
of there car. Racefans in Michiana are very luck to have Super
Late model tracks like Plymouth (IN) Speedway and South Bend
Motor Speedway. I am going to try to catch a race at New Paris
(IN) Speedway before racing season ends! Gotta go see you at the
Races!
