Midwest Racing Roundup Weekly Column
Indianapolis,IN By Tom Botos 6-28-09
Hey Racefans, it was another awesome night of racing
Saturday Night June 27th as Scott Neal won the CRA Street
Stock 300 at Anderson (IN) Speedway. Forty CRA Street Stock
gladiators started the grueling 300 lap brawl.Beau Mitchell
from Owensboro,KY whom I interviewed in the pit area as well
as Joe Beaver did everything they could to pass Scott Neal
but could not get around him. I think if I remember
correctly around 19 of the 40 starters finished the race. I
promise you that you will not see a nicer field of Street
Stock type cars anywhere as beautiful as what was seen
Saturday Night at Anderson Speedway! The next CRA Street
Stock Brawl at Anderson will be Saturday Night August 8th
joining the CRA Sportsman for another wild and woolly
slugfest on the high banked quarter mile.
A guy stopped me in the Anderson (IN) Speedway pit
area Saturday Night and I did not think to get his name! He
informed me that Katie Jackson whom competed weekly last
season in CRA Street Stocks and is Joe Beaver's Daughter is
pregnant with a child and that is why she is sidelined this
season for now anyway. I wish her the best of luck with her
new baby and I hope to see her in a racecar soon as she has
at least one feature win under her belt from 2008!
It was great to see Dick Dunlevy Jr. compete at
Anderson Speedway. He was involved in a few entanglements on
the track during the Street Stock 300. I hope to see him
return here and race again august 8th. Dick Dunlevy Jr. is a
many time feature winner at Kilkare,Shady Bowl, and maybe
Columbus (OH) Speedways.
Hannah Lundy is a Thundercar Driver each week at
Anderson Speedway. She really impressed me Saturday Night
holding off at bay until the last lap of her heat race the
Thundercar Points leader Rod Phipps. Both Rod Phipps and
Hannah Lundy put on a side by side battle that Rod Phipps
won on the very last lap in a Thundercar Heat race.
Kim Mitchell is Beau Mitchell's Mother. I met Kim at
the Kentucky Motor Speedway as she is a scorer there on
Sunday Nights. Kim introduced me to her son Beau Mitchell
and I really enjoyed interviewing him! Beau Mitchell has won
races at Salem and Winchester (IN) Speedways and has a few
CRA Street Stock wins at Anderson (IN) Speedway. Beau
Mitchell plans on running the Firecracker 200 race and the
Halloween 200 race at Salem (IN) Speedway. I wish Beau the
best of luck during the rest of the 2009 racing season!
I had a few ideas last night while brainstorming
with Dad about setting up a small booth at the races where I
could sell MAARN News, interview and take pictures of
drivers, and I have a few ideas for a Midwestern Racing Fan
Club. I am not sure if promoters and track owners would
permit me to have this booth but it is something I am
workingon and thinking about. I definitely want to be more
visable to drivers and would like for drivers and fans to
ask me for an interview. I would like to have a fan of the
week profile and driver of the week profile! So many ideas
pop into my head and the hard part is figuring out how to
implement them and also if these are good ideas or not. If
anyone out there reading this column right now has some
ideas on how to improve racing coverage please do not
hesitate to email me! I want my column to be cutting
edge, informative and as acccurate as I possibly can. Please
bare in mind that I am human and that I make mistakes along
the way.
If anyone out there has any ideas on how to start a
MIdwestern Racing Fan Club please email me. I would like to
see this being a Yahoo Group based fan club that is free to
join on the internet. If I start this fan club and you would
like to be a member please email me at
indybear37@yahoo.com. I am trying to see if there is any
interest out there for a fan club like this where we pass
the time chatting over the winter months and also could have
club meetings and cookouts at various tracks during racing
season. I am a HARF club member here in Indiana but would
like to see this club be more internet and Midwestern based
having fans in Illinois,Ohio,Kentucky,and Michigan.
