Hello Racefans, not a bad weekend of racing but a HOT one everywhere in the midwest! I got the privalege and honor to chat briefly with Ron Verash Saturday Night at Plymouth (IN) Speedway. He sells racing memorabilia, souvenirs and old historic photos of racers at tracks all over the midwest and the "Michiana area" Ron is a pleasure to chat with as he said he did very well selling items at Kankakee (IL) Speedway Friday Night. This does not surprise me as the Kankakee area racing fans are very devoted fans and that track has a very strong and hardcore fanbase the kind that a track needs to have if it is gonna prosper and suvive in these tough economic times we are all living through right now. Ron says Kankakee had a very good crowd and I am glad to here this track is back into prominence again as it is a fast premier track where you sit real close to the track so all the racing action is practically right up in your face! I have been to Kankakee once or twice and was mazed at how badfast the track can be!If you get a chance stop by this great track before the 2009 racing season is over!

My 3rd Midwest Racing Fan Of The Week is Ronald Nelson from Goshen,Indiana. Ron is 66 years old and his hometrack is New Paris (IN) Speedway. Ron's favorite driver is Dave Coleman and his favorite track is Kalamazoo (IN) Speedway. Ron enjoys the Nascar Sprint Cup Series and has traveled as far as 1,400 miles to Daytona Beach Florida to see a race! Ron agrees that coolers should be allowed in the tracks as well and would like to see higher car counts in all divisions of racing.Ron has been a racefan for 50 years and has family and friends involved in racing. Ron is a devoted racefan attending races every weekend as wells as big special event races.Ron is very excited about the upcoming Super Shoe Nationals at Kalamazoo (MI) Speedway. The Super Shoe Nationals is a bracket style racing format where you qualify in groups and you are grouped in races not by your division or type of car but is based on your qualifying time so you could have modifieds amd sportsman racing against late models in each race which should be very interesting. Ronald Nelson has been to tracks like New Paris,Plymouth,Kokomo,Gas City,M-40,and Kalamazoo Speedways. Ron was sitting next to me with his wife and he asked me about the 3 Hour World Figure 8 Championship race at the Indianapolis (IN) Speedrome the weekend of September 11th and 12th. I gave Ron directions and some info on how the 3 hour race is ran and he may attend it for the 1st time in 2009. He invited me to come to Kalamazoo (MI) Speedway for the Super Shoe Nationals a race I would love to check out someday.
Congrattulations to Scott Hantz for winning the Toledo (OH) Speedway CRA Super Series Late Model Race Friday Night August 14th. I know Scott struggled and wrecked during the Kalamazoo Clash held at Kalamazoo Speedway Wednesday Night won by Steve Needles congratulations to Steve on his win!
