Hello Racefans! Before we know it,
it will be time to go racing for our 2010 racing season. I
have high hopes that this will be an exciting season with
new track schedules coming out and new cars being built and
old ones being updated and refurbished to do battle again to
entertain us diehard racing fans. I wish I could go to the
Florida Speedweeks as I have never had the opportunity to go
to Florida for races anyway....
It is my understanding that Kamp
Motor Speedway in Boswell,Indiana is not opening for the
2010 racing season. I really hope a racefan will by or lease
the track and keep it a racetrack. We cannot afford to be
losing racetracks in a climate here in Indiana where no new
tracks are being built to replace the ones that close! The
way I see it is when a racetrack closes that is one less
option for us as racefans as far as a track to attend. This
season when you go to the races please invite friends and
co-workers as this may help create new fans and revenue for
the tracks to stay open and entertain us for years to come.
I wonder if anyone has any
information on the oval dirt track known as Bunker Hill
Speedway in Bunker Hill,Indiana ? The drag strip is still
there but from what I heard the oval track has been sold???
This is another track I wish someone with deep pockets could
resserect. I realize that most track owners struggle to make
a profit and alot of them do it purely for the love of
racing. Most of our hardcore weekly drivers in Pure
Stocks,Bombers, and Street Stocks never make enough money
while racing to keep there team going financially all season
long. Whenever I see these pit crews working hard in the
pits on the cars very few are paid any money and are friends
and relatives of the drivers. When I walk by all the cars I
think about how much money it costs to maintain the cars
week in and week out and I appreciate as a fan what the
drivers and car owners spend to entertain us! Most of us do
what we do strictly for the love of racing and are not in it
for profit but If a paid position came along I sure would
not turn it down!
I attended the Hoosier Auto Racing
Fans Awards Banquet at the Brickyard Crossing Banquet Hall
here in Indianapolis,Indiana near the Indianapolis Motor
Speedway. Johnny Parsons and Tony Elliott were both inducted
into the HARF Auto Racing Hall Of Fame for there awesome
contributions to this great sport of ours. Bryan Clausson
was awarded the HARF Driver Of The Year Award for doing so
well in 2009 and during the Indiana Sprint Week.
The Hoosier Auto Racing Fans club
is a very worthwhile group and they do alot for our area
drivers contributing to point funds and awarding T- shirts
to Feature Winners on race nights at most of our dirt tracks
and a few pavement tracks as well. By joining HARF you get
into a select group of tracks for half price on designated
HARF racing nights designated and agreed upon by HARF and
track promoters. So in essence you get your money back just
by attending discounted races sponsored by HARF. If you
would like to join HARF please go to
www.harfonline.org where the HARF Night discount dates
are listed for each track for the 2010 racing season.
The Vogler Scholarship Daytona 500
Party is Sunday February 14th at the Brickyard Crossing
Resort Pavillion near the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. We
will watch the Daytona 500 on huge flat screen TVs and I am
sure will have snacks and soda pop to munch on while
watching the race. I have never been to this party so I am
looking forward to it!
Most of our Indiana tracks have
there 2010 racing schedules out with the exception of Union
County (IN) Speedway and maybe a few others. The Union
County Speedway website is down which is not a good sign at
all.If anyone has any information on this track please email
me at
indybear37@yahoo.com .
Mt. Lawn (IN) Speedway has there
schedule out with a few CRA Sportsman and CRA Street Stock
events scheduled for 2010. I really enjoyed the CRA races at
Mt. Lawn last year as well as at Anderson (IN) Speedway. Mt
Lawn (IN) Speedway opens Saturday Night May 1st with Late
Models,Thundercars and Hornets as there weekly program on
Saturday Nights.
Anderson (IN) Speedway opens
Saturday March 13th with the rescheduled New Years Day Bash.
The racing card will be Thundercars,FWD Oval,FWD Figure
8,Pure Stocks and Mini Cups. I am very excited about the new
Pure Stock Division this year at Anderson Speedway. I hope
that they keep the lid tightly capped on the rulebook for
this division so that the costs do not get out of hand for
the drivers as it seems all these economical entry level
divisions seem to "evolve" year after year and before you
know it that Pure Stock is really a Late Model with a stock
body on it. In order for our tracks to have a good car count
all the stars must be aligned and if we get a good car count
at the weekly regular shows then that will draw more fans to
come and visit the track more frequently. The way I see it
the more cars a track has means better racing programs where
fans get there moneys worth and will want to come back.
Salem (IN) Speedway is building a
1/4 mile track inside there 1/2 mile oval including a Figure
8 Track. I hope that the new track will be done in time for
the IOFS International Outlaw Figure 8 Series event
scheduled there on Sunday May 23rd! Salem is also starting a
new FWD Division and Pure Stock Division that will run only
on the 1/4 mile track. The Salem Speedway 2010 schedule is
out but I wish they had more races scheduled than they do
have. I hope that on May 23rd if the track is ready that a
standing room only crowd shows up to support Salem Speedway.
I would like to see more races at Salem since they are
spending so much money on a new track. I wish Richard Deaton
good luck on his new ventures this year at Salem Speedway!
Winchester (IN) Speedway will
again feature the CRA Super Series,Sportsman,Street Stocks
and FWD Compacts in several shows during the 2010 racing
season. I am glad to see the SuperPro Late Model Series also
coming to the Winchester Speedway in 2010 with at least one
show for racefans. I wish that Winchester would have a 200
lap Enduro for Street Stocks like they had in the past. The
Motion Motors Late Models from Mt. Lawn Speedway put on a
whale of a show last year running with the CRA Sportsman
drivers in there events at Winchester. I hope that
Winchester will again have the Motion Motors Late Models on
the schedule at the end of the season at least. Watching
drivers like Scott Knepley,L.J. Lines,Terry Cater and Jason
Atkinson mix it up with the best CRA Sportsman drivers in
the midwest is definitely a treat!
Sportsdrome (IN) Speedway in
Jeffersonville,Indiana is opening Saturday April 3rd with
Fan Appreciation Night. There running X-treme Oval, X-treme
Figure 8s,Dromer Oval,Dromer Figure 8s,FWD Oval and FWD
Figure 8s.. You will get your moneys worth at Sportsdrome.
They have good car counts week in and week out with great
racing. For more information go to
www.sportsdromeonline.com .
Brownstown (IN) Speedway opens
Saturday March 20th with Super Late Models,UMP Super
Stocks,UMP Modifieds and Hornets as there first night of
racing in 2010. Twin Cities Raceway Park Opens March 13th
with UMP Modifieds UMP Superstocks,UMP Pure Stocks and
Hornets.
I wish everyone in the racing world
a successful 2010 racing season. I hope to see more fans in
the stands and higher car counts in all classes at all
tracks. We must make 2010 stand out from 2009 and not let
the economy dictate whether or not we have a good time at
the races with family and friends. Any news, notes or
comments email me at
indybear37@yahoo.com . Gotta go see you at the Races!!!
