Hello race fans were right in the middle of a HUGE
racing weekend with the Brickyard 100, Kroger 200 at O Reilly
Raceway Park and the upcoming Redbud 300 at Anderson (IN)
Speedway for the CRA Super Series Late Models. Kyle Busch is the
defending champion of this race and is expected to attend and
defend that crown Monday Night at Anderson (IN) Speedway at 7:30
pm. Chase Eliott, Bill Eliott and Ken Schrader are also
scheduled to appear at Anderson Speedway.
I have talked about forgotten race tracks and "ghost
tracks "before in my column but these websites deserve
mentioning again. I wish when in retire to one day have a motor
home and be able to "trackchase" and go to some closed tracks
and see some new ones as well. Imagine being able to go to
Florida during the winter time and maybe California and see
races at there tracks while the midwest is still covered in cold
and snow of the dull wintery season. it would be a dream to see
every track I have ever seen a picture of or read race results
about in a paper.
I have never been to a canadian track but if you like
racing about Canadian race tracks go to
http://www.motorsportscentral.com/old-tracks.asp . I wish we
had a historical website like this that covered the midwestern
area race tracks. this site is loaded with pics and historical
information on Canadian "ghost tracks".
The next website overs tracks out futher west that are
"dust in the wind" and when you hear the song playing on this
website link it makes you think about all the past racers dead
and gone that raced every weekend at these ghost tracks . These
drivers and tracks will live on with the pictures on the website
capturing that racing moment "freezing" that moment in time
forever. The Forgotten Tracks website is at
http://www.forgottentracks.com/ .
I often look at the old photos on my wall from Jungle
Park (IN) Speedway,Dayton (OH) Speedway and drivers like Everett
Saylor,Red Campbell,Ted Horn and Tony Bettenhausen and wish I
could back in time in atime machine and see some of these
historic tracks and drivers!
Saturday Night I went to Mt. Lawn Speedway for a special
show of Late Models,Thundercars and Hornets along with UMRA TQ
Midgets,Mini Cups and Faskarts. Eight feature were ran with
Terrry Goff winning the UMRA TQ Feature. Kevin Claborn won the
Late Model Feature. Neil Marcum won another Thundercar Feature
after battling long and hard tooth and nail with Kevin Claborn
in his thundercar. Any driver can now run in all three divisions
now at Mt. Lawn Speedway.
# 76 Brian Reynolds was charging hard to the front in
the Hornet make up feature at Mt Lawn when Brian Slavey collided
with him heading into the famous Mt Lawn short turn. Slaveys car
was slightly damaged while Reynolds car suffered what looked
like a broken tie rod. Brian was retired to the pit area for the
evening. I hope Brian can get the car repaired and return to
racing. Brian is a really good driver with very little
sponsorship and I hope he can return as he has won 2 features
thus far this season. Joyce Dyer won the Hornet make up feature
while Ryan Claborn won the 2nd Hornet feature.
Coming Saturday July 31st will be the Founders Day 100
for Thundercars plus Late Models and Hornets at Mt Lawn
Speedway. This should be a good race as the tire rules have been
opened up a bit for more information go to
www.mtlawn.com .
CRA Late Model Sportsman invade Anderson Speedway
Saturday July 31st along with Street Stocks,Thundercars and the
FWD Figure 8s. These talented drivers always put on a great show
at Anderson Speedway if you attend you will not be dissapointed.
