Hello Racefans I am now two races
into our new 2010 racing season and I am
itching for more and am very excited about
the big events coming up in the MIdwestern
racing area! Congratulations to Rusty
Schlenk winning the season opener at
Brownstown Speedway and Jimmy Owens winning
the Indiana Icebreaker for Lucas Oil Late
Models on Saturday March 27th.
Rob Allman won the Thundercar 200
Lap Enduro at Anderson Speedway Saturday
Night March 27th. I am very proud to see a
smiling driver win that gruesome race. Rob
Allman won the race after a turn one mishap
with a few other cars which peeled off the
whole right side of his body work on the
car. The crew worked very hard in the pits
to get the car repaired well enough to win a
hard fought race with Rod Phipps and NIck
Warner.
I am very sad to announce that Mid
American Auto Racing News is no longer in
publication and is now out of business. I
will miss contributing to that paper with my
race results and column. I grew up buying
and reading that paper cover to cover at
Brownstown (IN) Speedway. Before the
internet blossomed the MAARN was my main
source for results and columns to read. I
really enjoy Jerry Wahl and Todd Ridgeways
column in there and Eldon Butchers On The
Write Track column which covered southern
Indiana racing. Well, it is a new season
and we must think positively and move
forward and try to cover our local weekly
racers as best we can and that is what my
intention is for 2010!
I just talked briefly with Rick
Sweigart the owner and promoter at Mt. Lawn
(IN) Speedway. Mt. Lawn is opening Saturday
Night May 1st with Late Models,Thundercars,
and Hornets. Mt. Lawn Fan Appreciation Night
is Saturday May 8th. Please mark your
calendar as Sunday June 13th as the CRA
Champion Racing Association comes to Mt.
Lawn with CRA Sportsman and CRA Street
Stocks to wage war on the egg shaped tri
oval! I cannot wait for thsi race as the CRA
always put on a whale of a show at Mt.
Lawn. The famous short turn at Mt. Lawn sure
is a test for the traveling CRA Series and
is always an interesting stumbling block as
far as winning or losing a race. If drivers
can master the short turn then they have the
advantage over everyone else on the tricky
track!
If you join HARF the Hoosier Auto
Racing Fan club you get two for one
admission all season long on Saturday
Nights! If you wanna join HARF go to
www.harfonline.org . Mt. Lawn Speedway
is the only track I am aware of that is
offering this great discount to devoted
racefans. So you might as well Join HARF and
get the great discounts all season long at
Mt. Lawn and other great Indiana tracks.
Saturday Night at Anderson Speedway
during hot laps I was approached by Dave
Egan from South Bend,Indiana. Dave is anvid
racefan and follows both dirt and pavement
stock car racing. Dave has been to
Eldora,Knoxville,Iowa and Williams grove
Speedway in Pennsylvania. His favorite
drivers are Rich Vogler and Sammy Swindell.
Dave was at Salem (IN) Speedway where Rich
Vogler lost his life and to this day,Dave
remembers that event like it was yesterday.
Dave says he likes variety and enjoys
Thundercars and enduros as much as sprints
and late models on dirt and asphalt. Dave
has been to about 485 tracks that in itself
is awesome!
Dave says his hometracks are
Shadyhill,Eldora,Oakshade Speedway in
Ohio, and Kokomo (IN) Speedway. Dave has been
a racefan for 36 of his 40 years of life.
Dave has been to the Kings Royal Sprint Car
Race,Knoxville Nationals in Iowa,Williams
Grove Open,World 100 at Eldora and the
Copper World Classic in Phoenix,Arizona.
Dave enjoys the World Of Outlaws as
his favorite touring series.
I told Dave he has definitely met
all requirements and has qualified well to
be named MIdwest Racing Fan Of The Week!!!
Coming Saturday Night April 3rd will
be Street Stocks,Figure 8s,FWD Figure 8s and
the new Pure Stock Division at Anderson (IN)
Speedway. Gates open at At 4pm with Racing
at 7pm. For detailed information go to
www.andersonspeedway.com .
Do not forget the IOFS International
Outlaw Figure 8 Series will debut in 2010 at
Anderson Speedway on Saturday April 10th.
the IOFS FWD Division will also be in action
as well that evening. This is the 1st race
for the IOFS this year and it should happen
and will on the greatest figure 8 track in
the world and thats Anderson Speedway with
its dauting high banks. There is nothing
like seeing those wild outlaw figure 8 cars
diving down off those banks and climbing up
in the turns! If you have never seen an
outlaw figure 8? Come out to Anderson for a
wild and woolly time as the IOFS always
steals the show at Anderson Speedway!
Salem (IN) Speedway is building a
new 5/16ths mile banked asphalt oval and
figure 8 track inside the famous half mile
track which is .666 mile actually? I have
tickets for the ARCA 200 at Salem plus the
Frank Kimmell Street Stocks will do battle
in a 50 lap feature. i cannot wait to see
how the new tracks are progressing! I am so
excited about the season schedule at Salem
this year! Anyway the ARCA 200 and Kimmel 50
are on Sunday April 11th at Salem Speedway.
Come on out and check out the progress on
the new tracks and bring your cooler and
party while you watch the races! For more
information on Salem Speedway go to
www.salemspeedway.com .
Twin Cities Raceway Park in North
Vernon,Indiana hosts the No Way Out 40 for
Sprints Saturday April 3rd along with UMP
Superstocks and UMP Pure Stocks. This should
be a good race especially if you craving
dirt in your beer! I love the family
atmosphere at Twin Cities and you can take
in a small cooler for drinks and buy hot
food at the concession stand at very
reasonable prices! For any news,notes,or
comments email me at
indybear37@yahoo.com . Gotta go see ya
at the Races!!!
