Midwest Racing Roundup By Tom Botos 4-26-10
My racing plans were almost washed out completely
last weekend as Gas City (IN) Speedway and Anderson (IN)
Speedway were rained out as well as New Paris (IN) Speedway.
I did get to see some great heat racing Saturday Night at
New Paris Speedway. New Paris has a great street stock class
that allows many variations on car body type. The Sportsman
template body cars from South Bend and Plymouth Speedways
are allowed to run with the full bodied Street stocks at
New Paris. This makes for some very interesting racing! I am
not sure when I will make it back to New Paris Speedway as
it seems like there is always a decent race here in my area
closer to home on the very same Saturday Nights. I really
wish New Paris Speedway was closer to Indianapolis! New
Paris is one of the best weekly shows in the Midwest! The
Pure Stocks at New Paris are very nicely painted and would
pass for street stocks at tracks like Anderson and Mt. Lawn
Speedways.
I goofed this past weekend and didnt bring my
clipboard that has my Midwest Racing Roundup Fan Of The Week
survery sheets. I had three fans of the week last week so I
guess I can give that a rest this week right? If you are a

I did interview several drivers this past weekend like Bobby
Stremme,Bobby Schisler,Leonard Davis,Michael Tutino, and
Josh Sommers. It is always a great time when you can chat
with the drivers to gain there perspective on racing that an
ordinary racefan does not see.
This weekend coming up is a huge one for area racing
as Anderson (IN) Speedway hosts the rescheduled Night Of
Thrills on Friday April 30th featuring Schoolbus figure 8
races,Trailer Figure 8 Race,Corkscrew Race,Rollover contest
and the FWD Oval Division in action on the oval. Then come
back to Anderson (IN) Speedway on Saturday May 1st for a
regular show of Street Stocks,Figure 8s,& FWD Oval And FWD
Figure 8 Divisions.
Gas City (IN) Speedway hosts The Kokomo & Gas City
Speedway Modified Challenge event on Friday April 30th. The
Non Wing Sprints,Street Stocks and Thundercars will round
out this Friday program. Bloomington (IN) Speedway hosts a
regular program of Non wing Sprints,UMP Modifieds and UMP
Super Stocks as well on Friday April 30th.
Mt Lawn (IN) Speedway has there season opener this
Saturday May 1st with Late Models,Thundercars,and Hornets. I
have waited so long for Mt. Lawn to open that i cannot
believe the time is NOW! I hear that Scott Knepley a Late
Model Driver at Mt. Lawn Speedway has built a UMP Modified
to race at Eldora (OH) Speedway a few times this racing
season. I am nor sure if L. J. Lines will have a late model
this year as i hear he may not have a ride put together as
of yet. Mt Lawn Speedway 2009 Thundercar Champion Ryan
Amonett is rumored to have bought a Late Model to compete in
2010. I really hope that Tony Stewart in the #20 Thundercar
from Straughn,Indiana returns to race this season, Tony's
battles with Ryan Amonett last season in thundercars were
awesome and those memories will linger for a long time to
come. Brian Reynolds a Hornet driver last season really
showed alot of promise and talent and I hope he returns to
Mt. Lawn Speedway to do battle this year!

Winchester (IN) Speedway has there season opener
Sunday May 2nd with Bill Elliott and his son Chase Elliott
will have an autograph session at the Infamous Winchester
Speedway! The CRA Super Series Late Models wage war in the
Manning Service 100. The CRA Street Stocks will have a 40
lap feature and the FWD Compacts will round out the program
