Midwest Racing Roundup By Tom Botos 4-4-10
Hello again racefans another great weekend of racing
just took place as Josh Meyers won the Street Stock 40 lap
Feature Saturday Night at Anderson (IN) Speedway. Rod Phipps won
the 25 lap Figure 8 Division Feature, and Nick Warner won the
FWD Oval and FWD Figure 8 Features. It was a very cool night
again Saturday Night I am sure the weather and racing will heat
up this coming Saturday April 10th as the IOFS International
Outlaw Figure 8 Series blazes into Anderson Speedway with there
debut race of 2010. The IOFS Outlaw FWD Cars will also compete
along with Street Stocks and Thundecars. Racing will start at
7pm so get there early and get your favorite seat to see the
best outlaw figure 8 drivers in the nation!
It is my honor and priveledge to bring my little brother
with me to Anderson Speedway this Saturday Night. My little
brother's name is Isaiah Starks whom I met in the Big Brothers
and Big Sisters Of Central Indiana Progam. Isaiah is nine years
old and has never been to a short track auto race. Isaiah says
he has been to the Indianapolis 500 a few times so far. Isaiah
loves to draw and has dreamed of being a race car driver
someday. I hope I can introduce Isaiah to some of the drivers
Saturday at Anderson and get photos taken with them as well. I
am glad I can enjoy this time with Isaiah and can make a
difference in his life. I can remember how excited I was at my
first auto race it was like being a kid in a candy store!
My Midwest Racing Fan Of The Week is Robert Borton from
Elkart,Indiana. Robert is 44 years old and has been a fan of
racing most of his life.Robert is actually a track worker at
Plymouth (IN) Speedway. Robert's favorite drivers are Rich Boal
in Late Models,Shawn White in Mini Stocks,Robert Reed in
FWD's,and Mark Martin in Nascar. Robert says his favorite tracks
are Bristol,Daytona,Talledega, and Kalamazoo on the local level.
Robert and I think more tracks should make the restrooms more
handicap accessible for fans with disabilities. Robert and I
feel that the driver payout should be improved and more spread
out from the race winner on down to the last place driver.
Robert would like to see more traveling/touring series at the
tracks to spice up the weekly programs a little bit more for the
fans. Robert urges all fans to support your weekly short tracks
while we still have them! Stop by the pit gate at Plymouth and
you will find Robert every Saturday Night working as the pit
gate operator in 2010.
Monpelier (IN) Motor Speedway has there season opener
Saturday April 10th. The UMP Modifieds,Super
Stocks,Thundercars, and Mod lites will highlight the program that
evening. Montpelier is a 1/4 mile dirt oval in eastern Indiana.
General admission is $10.00 for ages 13 and up. Kids 12 and
under get in free with a paying adult. Pit Passes are $25.00
with gates opening at 4pm.Hot laps begin at 6PM with Racing at
7PM.
Twin Cities Raceway Park in North Vernon,Indiana is
running both Friday and Saturday April 9th and 10th with
Sprints,Super Stocks and Hornets on Friday April 9th. The UMP
Mini Stocks headline Saturday night with the "Mini Stock
Rock".The UMP Modifieds,Hornets and the MMSA TQ Midgets round
out the Saturday Night program. For more information go to
www.twincitiesracing.net .
Salem (IN) Speedway hosts the Kentuckiana Ford Dealers
ARCA 200 on Sunday April 11th along with the Kimmel Street Stock
50. I have tickets for this event and am looking forward to
checking out the construction on the new 5/16 mile oval and
figure 8 track inside the Salem Speedway half mile! It should be
an awesome season at Salem Speedway as they are trying to offer
a variety of racing for the racefans. I urge you to support this
track as much as possible especially since they allow you to
bring a small cooler into the track which makes it more
economical for everyone! For more information go to
www.salemspeedway.com .
