Midwest Racing Roundup By Tom Botos
Well since I didnt not write a column last
week. I want to talk about what happened during the
CRA Street Stock 75 lapm event on May 8th at
Anderson (IN) Speedway. it was an abosolute whale of
a show with # 17 Scott Neal billed ar "Mr.
Excitement "when he is racing on the speedway is an
absolute understatement! Scott reminds me of "Flyin"
Brian Ross with there no holds barred driving
styles. I have seen both drivers sacrifice there
neat and pretty looking paint jobs to put on a show
for the fans and also do what they can to improve
positions on the track! Rich Boyer ended up winning
the 75 lap feature but he had tons of pressure from
#28 Jason Thompson and also #27 Josh Poore and of
course #17 Scott Neal. #91 Rich Segvich was running
in second place for many laps until his car broke.
this 75 lap feature was full of side by side paint
swapping, sparks flying racing action that I simply
can never get enough of!
On Sunday May 16th Winchester Speedway had
there season opener CRA Street Stock 50 lap Feature
with #32 Bret Miles Sr. winning the race over #33
Rich Boyer. This race was darn good race with #73
puttting on a good show passing cars left and right.
In that #73 car was Jeff Lane from
Knightstown,Indiana. #28 Jason Thompson also ran
very weel in this race. From what I have seen Jason
is a hard charging no hards barred type of driver as
well. I have seen Jason push his cars to the limit.
I do not blame him as I would do the same to move to
the front as quick as possible. I really think if
Jason is patient some wins will come his way. His
car definitely has the power to do some damage in
the CRA Street Stock wars stay tuned!....
Friday Night I went to Bloomington (IN)
Speedway for there UMRA TQ Midget show along with
Bombers,UMP Modifieds, and Super Stocks as Ronnie
Combs won the UMRA TQ Midget Feature ahead of #1
Terry Goff. Bubba Woods won the Bomber Feature while
Clint Demoss won the UMP Modified Feature. The racing
was pretty good with very few caution periods. I
must admit that Bloomington Speedway has the most
variety and best stock in the concession stand. the
Gates opened at 5:30 and immediately the concession
was stcoked and ready to go! The concession stand
prices are reasonable the food very enjoyable.
Saturday Night I went to Anderson Speedway
for there CRA Sportman 75 Lapper. Al Cook Jr. held
off a very fast and hard charging #68 Charlie
Hanna,Mark Lambert,Howard Kelly and Steve Stacy.
Howard Kelly and Steve Stacy got tangled earlier in
the race which sent Steve Stacy spinning out of
control both recovered and finished the race in 5th
and 6th position.
Again on Sunday during the Winchester
Speedway Season Opener Ross Kenseth won the Manning
Service 100 for the CRA Super Series Late
Models.Ross Kenseth recovered from a tangle up with
the leader at that point #14 Tommy St. John. This
collision sent Tommy St john spinning into the
inside retaining wall and he pounded the wall fairly
hard. I wish Tommy St. John better luck in future
Mt Lawn (IN) Speedway and Bare Field (IN)
Speedway both cancelled due to rain Saturday Night.
Mt Lawn Speedway has Spring Fan Night Saturday May
22nd with $5.00 per person general admission.
Anderson (IN) Speedway hosts there Season
Championships for all divisions including Street
Stocks,Thundercars,FWD Oval ,FWD Figure 8s and the
regular Figure 8 Division. this event is on Saturday
one thing I have noticed that I think we
kind of take for granted is the expected car count
each week at the tracks. We must remember that most
of these drivers are not making enough money to live
on or let alone the amount hat they are paid. these
drivers scarifice there time, money and sometimes
lives to entertain us!!
The next time you see a driver sitting or
helping in the pits say hello because sometimes
these drivers can be very cordial and will ask
questions. Thank these drivers and let them know you
appreciate what they spend in the racecar to
entertain us! For information,News, notes or comments
