Midwest Racing Roundup By Tom Botos
6-6-10
Hello racefans it was a weird racing weekend
but a somewhat full one across the midwest.
Kalamazoo,Shadyhill,Illiana,Mt. Lawn and Baer Field
Speedways canceled due to rain on Saturday. Spartan
(Mi) Speedway canceled on Friday due to rain. As I
write this my friend Dave Egan is enjoying the
OReilly USA Modifieds Series racing at Kalamazoo
(MI) Speedway. Dave was my fan of the Midwest Racing
Fan Of The Week back in April at Anderson Speedway.
I am amazed at how many races Dave goes to at many
different tracks both asphalt and on dirt. Dave
calls me almost every weekend and tells me where he
is going racing almost every Friday,Saturday, and
Sunday Nights. Dave is more of a sprint car fan but
he teases me that I have been to more sprint car
races and tracks this season including Gas
City,Bloomington, and Paragon (IN) Speedways. I am
really torn because I am still really impressed with
Paragon Speedways weekly Saturday Night show of four
divisions and running two sprint features as long as
they have 26 sprints. Paragon Speedway allows
coolers which is really nice to racefans on these
long hot summer nights were beginning to have at the
tracks. I might just have to venture back out to
Paragon Speedway again before the season is over!
Sometimes I go to a track or race then I think "man
I should have gone to this track or that race
instead". I know when you have a really good time at
a race or track you wanna go back again and again to
relive the experiences you had and also make new
memories with your racing family and friends.
I wish some of these trackchaser fans that I
meet would write a short racing column talking about
there experiences at each track following some
touring series races versus regular weekly shows. I
think I have just as much fun at a regular show at
Mt. Lawn Speedway on a regular Saturday night than
some of the bigger money paying shows for dirt late
models. I have been to the World 100,Dream 100,The
Jasckson 100 and yes these shows are memorable to me
but some weekly regular shows have been memorable
too. Your weekly Saturday Night racer deserves just
as much press and media attention as the touring
series drivers. Your weekly racers feed like a farm
team the touring series in our racing areas. I am
trying to get Dave to meet me on Saturday August 7th
and go to the Super Late Model race at Shady Bowl
(OH) Speedway. I have not been to Shady Bowl
Speedway and it has been on my track chaser list for
several years. Shady Bowl opens late and closes
early so its hard to get over there between me going
to all my CRA races that I cover and enjoy. I want
to go to Midway,Skyline,Moler,Rocky Top,Hilltop in
Ohio and Lincoln,Tri-City and Spoon River Speedways
in Illinois.
I have a wishlist of tracks I would love to
go to but I always end up going to an event closer
to home it seems. In order to make it to these
tracks that open late and close early I would have
to give up some of the bigger races that I always
attend each year here in my racing area. it is
really nice having choices where to go racing and
never get bored covering thsi great sport of auto
racing.
I also wish some fans out there at these
weekly shows would send or email me race results and
tell me about there experiences at the track each
night. The next thing you know you can be a full
fledgesd racing columnist and not even realize what
you are doing is helping promote your weekly track
and drivers. In this column you would talk about if
you met any drivers and how they performed in there
races as well as tell us the car count and what
happened during the races which is what I call the
racing summary. I would like to get Dave and Chris
"Miciana Racin" to write and tell me there
experiences at the track. My vacation days have all
been set up around racing events and now I look at
my racing calendar seeing shows I would like to
attend but would need Friday off from work as well
as Monday for some late Sunday Night shows that
would involve some traveling.
The IOFS International Outlaw Figure 8
Series travels to Columbus (OH) Motor Speedway thsi
Saturday June 12th for its first ever IOFS figure 8
racing event.Colmbus has run only schoolbus figure
8s on the track up until now!Jeff Shackelford leads
the points standings for the Outlaw Figure 8s after
wiinning the seasoner opener for the IOFS at
Anderson Speedway. This should be a very interesting
race for any track chaser being that these figure 8
drivers have never competed at this brand new figure
8 course!
Mt Lawn Speedway hosts a regular show of

and FasKarts. on Saturday July 12th.

figure! I have a Midwest Racing Fan Of The Week I
will add to next weeks article. Any news, notes or
