Midwest Racing Roundup By Tom Botos 7-19-10 .
It was a great racing weekend other than a rain delay at
Anderson Speedway. A great enthusiastic crowd came out to see
the 61st running of the National Crown Figure 8 Race and the 1st
appearance of the Motion Motors Late Models in a 50 lap Feature!
Congratulations to Curtis Chapman for winning the 2001 and 2010
National Crown races with Rob allman and Rod Phipps finishing
2nd and 3rd.
Congratulations to Scott Neal for winning the Motion
Motors late model feature after a good battle with Terry
Cater,Josh Poore and Scott Knepley early on in the race. I was
very happy to see such a fun lively crowd at Anderson they
really seemed to be into the races!
Jason Atkinson won a rain shotrened 26 lap feature for
CRA Street Stocks over Rich Boyer,Rick Erwin,Calvin Parham and
Brian Hopkins. I really enjoyed talking with Rob Allman and Rich
Boyer at Anderson Saturday Night, Rob Allman cut his finger down
to the bone. I hope Rob is ok and can race very soon! Ronnie
Rose raced in CRA Street Stocks and the buzzed over toi Anderson
Speedway to race in the National Crown Figure 8 only to wreck in
turn 1 with Jason Pitts. I hate to see guys total there cars in
the figure 8 I hope both cars can be repaired for the next
figure 8 event at Anderson Speedway.
Sunday I went to Winchester Speedway for some AWESOME
racing in the CRA Sportsman,USA Modifieds and CRA Street Stocks.
Bud Perry Passed Mike Carroll and Chad Poole coming from 8th
place to win the O Reilly USA Modified 50 lap feature. This was
a very close finished and probably the best Modified race I have
ever seen at Winchester Speedway! The CRA Sportsman feature s
awesome too as Rick Rinehart won after battling with Al Cook Jr.
whose car broke while leading but before all that it was a
spirited battle with Brandon Mefford,Charlie Hanna and Jason
Atkinson all battling up front jockeying for position trying to
pass high and low! If you didnt come to Winchester because of
rain you missed one whale of a show! Congrats to Justin Brown
winning the CRA Compact Feature while the leader Cary Abrell
was blackf flagged for running under his qualifying time. Tough
break for Cary Abrell.
Coming this Saturday July 24th will be a USSA Program
with Midgets and Thunder Roadsters at Anderson Speedway. The
RedBud 300 with Kyle Busch and the stars and cars of the CRA
Super Series invade Anderson Speedway for a 300 lap slugfest off
the high banks on Monday July 26th! Take a blanket and get your
seat early as racing action that Monday begins at 7:30 pm.
Mt Lawn Speedway hosts the UMRA TQ Midgets plus Late
Models,Thundercars and Hornets. Added to this program will be
double rainout features from last week for Thundercars and
Hornets! This should be a good show with plenty of racing action
to tickle your fancy as a race fan.
Sunday July 25th Kokomo Speedway hosts Non Wing
Sprints,UMP Modifieds,Street Stocks and Thundercars. I hear UMP
Modified races have been really good this season at Kokomo
Speedway. I may go this race if I get the chance!
