Midwest Racing Roundup  By  Tom Botos  9-9-10

Hello Race fans I have been extremely lazy by not writing this column on time. Since I wrote the last one on a Thursday I decided to let it stay online to be read a bit longer. I went to Paragon (IN) Speedway with my trackchaser friend Chris Ballantine. He was very impressed as they had a very healthy car count of non wing sprints on there season ending night on Saturday Aug 28th.The racing was decent that night despite two or three sprint car flips and one Bomber gettting up on its side during the bomber feature. I am looking forward to visiting Paragon Speedway again in 2011!

Chris spent the night and then went with me to Salem (IN) Speedway for the IOFS International Outlaw Figure 8 Series Showdown on Sunday August 29th. Chris Green won the 50 lap feature.Brad Brooks won the IOFS FWD Figure 8 Feature. Frank Kimmel II won the Super Stock feature and Winston Wood won the Street Stock feature.

On Labor Day Weekend I took my little brother Isaiah Starks to Anderson Speedway Saturday Night for the Night Of Thrills which featured a school bus figure 8 and a trailer figure 8 race. Isaiah really enjoyed this event and I knew if I gave him the choice of where to take in a race it would be a track holding a night of thrills special event.

Sunday and Monday I went to Winchester (IN) Speedway for the CRA World Stock Car Festival featuring Super Series Late Models,Sportsman,Modifieds,Street Stocks,Thunder Cars and FWD Compacts. The Super Series race was totally awesome with Johnny Van Doorn andScott Hantz swapping the lead at least once with Van Doorn taking the lead and win.

Scott Neal won the CRA Sportsman race after starting in the eighth position. This was one of the best CRA Sportsman races of the season. The Super series and Sportsman Features alone were well worth the price of admission! Congratulations to Cary Abrell on winning the CRA FWD Compacts Feature. Bret Miles Jr. won the CRA Street Stock feature. 145 cars waged war in heat races Sunday Night then 150 showed up for the Feature events on Monday afternoon.

Due to lack of sponsorship funding the Great Lakes Outlaw Late Model series event scheduled for Saturday Sept. 11th at Plymouth Speedway has been canceled. The Late Models will race as part of the 3rd leg of the Triple Crown Late Model Series running on the 970 tire. All area Late Model drivers are invited to come and compete! Plymouth Speedway is taking Saturday Sept 18th  off so drivers can run the New Paris Speedway Blow Out on Sat. Sept 18th.

Lincoln Park (IN) Speedway is running the USAC Sprint Cars on Fri Sept 11th with Modifieds,Bombers and Super Stocks. On Saturday they race again with Non wing Sprints,Modifieds,Bombers and Super Stocks. This should be a great show and I have a feeling now that Paragon Speedway is closed we will see a huge car count at LPS!

My friend Dave Egan asked me to find a racing event for Sunday. Toledo (OH) Speedway has the ARCA 200 On Sunday Sept 12th. Kokomo Speedway had there last regular show this past Sunday Night.

Kil-Kare (OH) Speedway hosts the Stocktoberfest Fall Nationals for Sport Stocks and Compacts on Sunday October 10th. I was told CRA Street Stocks ARE eligable to compete with weight modifications and adjustments! There will also be a $400 to win Trailer Race with another $200 awarded to the best of show car and trailer judged by the audience and fans! For more information go to www.kilkare.com/FallNationals.htm or call (937) 429-2961.
