Well Racefans it is Jackson 100 weekend! You smell the grills cooking hot dogs and burgers in the campground,campers sitting everywhere you look and a pit area full of big rig haulers and trailers of Late Models ready to do battle like gladiators in the Roman Coliseum! 58 Late Models qualified with Kentucky Driver Josh McGuire being the 1st car out set fast time with a 15.221 Friday Night at Brownstown Speedway.Don O'neal was fast with a 15.313 clocking,as well as with a 15.385.Tim McCreadie timed in with a 15.308. The Jackson 100 should be a good race here on Saturday Night.I will make sure there are results in the MAARN News!
South Bend (IN) Motor Speedway closed in 2007 and has been for sale for quite awhile now.Saturday October 18th the track will roar back to life once again with a benefit race hoping to lure an investor in to buy the track and reopen it in 2009. Many racefans,drivers, and crewman have been at the track pulling weeds and painting the facility to get it race ready for October 18th.All this work is strictly voluntary and there doing it just for the love of auto racing and these devoted fans wish the track to remain a racetrack and not be torn down. I am very proud to see loyal racefans helping to keep a track open and I wish them the very best of luck finding a buyer/investor. The Saturday October 18th racing event will have races at 1:15 PM.There will be two divisions of cars which is open competition,no tire rule. The 8 cylinder division will include Late Models,Sportsman,Street Stocks,Thundercars,and Pure Stocks. The Mini Stocks will race including FWD cars,and Hornets from Plymouth,New Paris,Angola,and Baer Field Speedways.
South Bend Motor Speedway is having an Old Timers Day,Michiana Vintage Racers,and a Classic Car on this historic afternoon as this could be the last racing event ever at the Speedway.There will be a Racing Memorabilia Display with 20,000 photos from 75 racetracks with pictures from the bygone days of racing! Mt. Lawn (IN) Speedway has there Stock Car Extravaganza on Saturday and Sunday Sept. 27th & 28th with 2,500 to win Late Model Features both days and UMRA TQ midgets will run 50 laps on Saturday only.Thundercars and Hornets will round out the program both days at Mt. Two websites i visit regularly are www.figure8news.com and www.stockcarextreme.com both have messageboards,pictures,and driver profiles.I am looking at 2009 with much excitement and promise with the new International Figure 8 series that I promise to cover with enthusiasm.I am already looking forward to Twin Citiies and Brownstowns 2009 schedules since they start racing in March.
