Life is very funny. We all have roots, everything has roots. What happens
when we forget our roots??
Money is important but money is not everything. And yet, how did we come to
the point that our sports heros are worth more than the common man?? A
basketball player, a baseball player, a football player, a stockcar driver
can make millions for playing or driving. And yet before those millions,
where did that sport come from??
NASCAR came from our local tracks where on Saturday night, drivers and fans
went for some good "ole" fun watching cars go round in circles chasing each
other. It was not built to be a money making sport, it was built for
weekend fun and alittle self glory when you won.
Football has grown over the years but neither college football or NFL
football take away from those Friday night high school games. For if it was
not for those Friday nights, there would be no college players or pro
players. College and pro know where they came from, those Friday night
games so they respect that. But what happens when a sport stops respecting
it's roots.
NASCAR was born out of every weekend local Saturday night racing and yet
they disrespect it totally. They could care less if the heart of racing
lives or dies as long as they make money. Roots don't matter, money does.
NASCAR is not stupid, they know the more night races they add, the more they
take away from their roots. Do they care - obviously not. But without that
every weekend local racing, where would they be?? Broke and non-exsistant.
Will NASCAR ever wake-up and smell the coffee and see that they are hurting
their roots?? Not unless those fans make them wake-up and say hey, our
local racing counts also. Stop stepping on our toes and let us race our
Saturday nights and you take Sunday and we will all win.
