RJ Conley rallies to win his first ever UMP Summernationals race at the Brushcreek Motorsports Complex

It was a blistering hot 104 degree heat index but that didn't stop the Brushcreek Motorsports Complex from having an awesome show. 27 late models from all over were in attendance for Brushcreek's segment of the month long journey called the HELLTOUR. This was the next to last stop for the series as they have now made their way into the state of Ohio.

UMP Summernational's points leader Brandon Sheppard was the fastest qualifier with a time of 14.001, behind him was RJ Conley, Bobby Pierce, Jason Jameson and Ben Adkins rounded out the top five.

Three heat races were up next with the first heat race going to outside front row starter RJ Conley following him across the line was Sheppard, Rod Conley, Todd Frank, Delmas Conley, Mike Myers, Steve Kester, Brian Williams and Daniel Kattine.

The second heat race went to pole sitter Bobby Pierce who jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Behind him it was Jason Jameson in a Darrell Lanigan owned car, Ben Adkins, Chris Garnes, Zack Dohm, Ryan Markham, Chad Smith and Bob Mayer.

The third and final heat race was won by Dustin Griffin with Greg Johnson, Tim Lance, Jeff Arnold, Mark Morrison, Dillon Huron, Rob Starkey and Eric Christian all moving onto the big dance.

Then they ran a C-main but later ended up starting all of the cars in the feature.

As the "Hidden Gem" pulled onto the track, track officials all waited on the back stretch with college flags for the parade lap. The "Hidden Gem" is the only race in the country where 100% of the profits go towards college scholarships. Track promoter Steven Partin created this event and has been pretty successful with it. The four abreast parade lap got the fans on their feet. 40 laps of racing action was up next as the cars all fell back into the 2x2 lineup. At the drop of the green flag it was RJ Conley jumping out to a straightaway lead. By lap 8 RJ caught up with the back of the field as he started putting people a lap down, 2nd thru 6th place were putting on an awesome show passing back and forth until they crossed the line for the 10th lap that's when the first of 7 cautions flew. The top 6 runners were RJ, Sheppard, Jameson, Griffin, Johnson and Pierce. On the restart RJ once again jumped out to a steady lead and again caught up with lapped traffic. As RJ started putting people a lap down Sheppard and Jameson started to catch up to his rear bumper as Jameson ended up getting around the points leader. A caution once again slowed the field on the 17th circuit. The restart still had RJ at the point with Jameson, Sheppard, Johnson and Pierce rounded put top 5. At the drop of the green Jameson made a move on RJ and got the top spot away from the Wheelersburg native, also on the restart Sheppard made a bobble that ended up pushing him back to the 5th spot and gave Johnson and Pierce a chance at RJ but on lap 21 the leader slowed with smoke rolling out of the car putting RJ back into the lead with Johnson now in tow. At the halfway point it was still RJ in the lead with Johnson in tow and behind him was a battle for position with Zack Dohm making his presence in the top 5 with Pierce and Sheppard behind him. The 3 drivers swapped positions for many laps. Johnson starting putting pressure on RJ as they started catching lapped traffic once again. Johnson pulled up beside RJ on numerous occasions but it wasn't until there was 3 laps remaining that Johnson finally made a big move on RJ but at that same time a car went up in smoke in front of the leaders and another lapped car hit the oil on the track and spun bringing out the caution putting Johnson back into 2nd giving him 3 laps to try to make a move on RJ again. On the restart Johnson could pull beside RJ but it just wasn't enough as RJ went on to win his first ever UMP Summernationals sanctioned event paying him $5,000 for his win. Following him across the line was Johnson, Pierce, Sheppard, Dohm, Adkins, Rod Conley, Griffin, Kester, Lance, Arnold and Williams as they were the only cars running at the checkered flag. The series now has a day off then its onto the Attica and Oakshade Raceway's for the finale.
