Stocks for Tots/Stop Child Abuse Now Event at NASCAR Technical Institute‘

As we drove up to NASCAR Technical Institute (NTI) in Mooresville, NC, I could already tell the Stocks for Tots event was a huge success.

The 22nd annual Stocks for Tots event December 7th achieved both the physical and emotional kind of gifts. Stocks for Tots put on their annual event in a new venue at NTI. The net proceeds went towards (SCAN) Stop Child Abuse Now, the Iredell county agency of the national program which helps families at risk of child abuse and/or neglect by “building positive parent/child relationships through education, counseling and intervention programs.” Iredell County is fortunate enough to have RaceCity USA at its center and many influential people that have the ability to make a difference in the lives of many.

Many drivers, past and present, across a broad spectrum of series, media personalities, crew chiefs, and owners to sign autographs donated their time to sign autographs and let fans take their pictures as an incentive for the fan to bring in at least one unopened toy per person and $10 cash donation. The line stretched a great length of the hallways on NTI’s main floor. Fans brought windshields, sheet metal, tires, shirts, trading cards, etc…for them to sign. An estimated thousand people showed up for the cause. The toys donated were loaded into a panel truck which have now been distributed to all SCAN families in need, including families from the battered women’s shelter and families involved with the Department of Social Services.

Stocks for Tots is a wonderful foundation that wouldn’t be possible without the great volunteers and the wonderful people within the motorsports industry. Amy Eisele, Executive Director of SCAN, said it best, “Because of Stock for Tots many families will experience Christmas after all and SCAN will get funds to help with operational costs so we can serve our families and work towards prevention of child abuse.”  If you know of a family in need please contact SCAN at 704-878-2227 for more information.

Ryan Newman, driver of the U.S. Army #39, took time away from his newborn child to support the cause. 2011 NASCAR Hall of Fame inductees Ned Jarrett and Bobby Allison also took the time, as well as Kurt Busch, Ricky Stenhouse Jr, Ray Evernham, Larry McReynolds, Kelley Earnhardt, Sam Bass, and many more names. Many of the faces of the motorsports industry donate their personal time and personal money as well outside of the event visiting and donating to hospitals. Some of the biggest presentations were Kelley Earnhardt donating $1,000 of her personal money, JR Motorsports donating $1,500, and Stocks for Tots presented a check for $10,000 to SCAN. Their personal time is valuable and they have powerful voices that fans and outsiders will listen to creating terrific events and results that make our people, communities, and world a better place.

John Dodson, Director of NTI, thanked everyone for helping to change the life of a child. The holidays should be special and full of love for every single person. Thank you to everyone that has supported and donated towards Stocks for Tots and/or SCAN.
