#87
Michael Cherry drives the #87 Late Model
Class car. His home track is East Bay Raceway but he can also be
found racing at Putnam County Speedway, Volusia Speedway Park and
Charlotte County Speedway. He lives in Valnco, FL.
Team members helping Michael are:
John LaValle, Gordon Brown, Mom, Dad, Ashlee - girlfriend, Carl, David
Simpson. Jimmy Cherry is the car owner.
Michael started racing in 2004 in the
Street Stock Class at East Bay Raceway because of his need for speed and
liked 4 wheels better than 2. His first win was in 2005 in the
Street Stock Class at East Bay Raceway. Career highlights include
giving away bikes to local children, first Feature win on Father's Day,
flipping his car then coming back the next week and winning. First
African American to win at East Bay, first African American to join
National Late Model Series.
The thrill of racing for Michael is
racing side by side with his mentors, winning and being able to drive
his car on the trailer. His most exciting racing moment was
winning his first win on Father's Day. He's most proud of building
the bridge between racing and diversity.
Michael's racing heroes are David
Simpson and Dale Earnhardt.
Of racing, Michael says, "It's not as
easy as it looks. Get out before you get in!".
