Mike started racing in 1989 as a second generation driver, following in his father's footsteps ( Bob Thorp, Mike's father, died November,1995). His first win was in 2000.

Career highlights include: 10th in points in 1998.The thrill of racing for him is "going to the corner wide open and good wheel to wheel racing". He is most proud of "where I come from and Jesus Christ my savior and Guiding Light".
