Ronnie Weedon prior to his tragic death. We'd like to share his
words and thoughts with you, his fans....
Ronnie drove the #00 Open Wheel Modified
Class car. His home track was Davenport Speedway but he could also
be found racing at Quad City Speedway. He lived in Pleasant Valley,
IA.
People who helped Ronnie were: Gene Freeman, Wendell Essex,
Ken Flathers, Bob Peppers, Kare Kendworth, Bucky Wolf, Fred Grunder, Ron
Williams from Auto Ron's, Vic Stein and Ray Speth, Rob Connors and Jerry Connors. Dee Weedon was car owner.
He started racing in 1948 in the Coup
Class at Mahoneys because his cousin was running and Ronnie helped him and
had fun. His first win was in the B Class at Davenport Speedway.
Career highlights included 3 Track Championships in 1974 in Late Model,
winning 504 Features in his career, and celebrated 50 years of racing in
1998.
The thrill of racing for Ronnie was
competing. His most exciting racing moment was to win the
Springfield Mile in 1974. He was most proud of his reputation.
Ronnie's racing hero was Dale Earnhardt
Sr.
Of racing, Ronnie said, "Have fun,
display good sportsmanship. Race other cars as you would have them
race against you!".
