Chad Unzicker
#97
Chad Unzicker drives the #97 Open Wheel
Modified Class car. His home track is Fairbury Speedway but he can
also be found racing at Farmer City Raceway, I-55 Raceway, and Spoon
River Speedway. He lives in Morton, IL.
Team members helping Chad are:
Mike Unzicker, Christy Unzicker, Amy Unzicker, Carson Brown, Mark
Hankins, Adam Mellen. Mike Unzicker is the car owner.
Chad started racing in 2003 in the
Hornet Class at Peoria Speedway because he'd been on Matt Smith's pit
crew for three years and got the chance to drive a car. He loved
it so much that he bought a Hornet and raced it for one season, moving
up to the Modified Class the next year.
The thrill of racing for Chad is racing
against Carl Edwards at Lake Ozark Speedway in 2004. He had won
the truck race that day in Kansas and then the Feature that night.
Chad got to meet Carl. Chad's most proud of his consistency.
He continues to improve his driving skills and race car each year.
Chad's racing heroes are Jack Roush and
Matt Kenseth.
Of racing, Chad says, "Racing is the
only sport that takes 2 balls to play. The difference between the
men and the boys is the size and price of their toys! Time is
money and I don't have enough of either. Fail to plan, plan to
fail! It's not speed that kills, it's the sudden stop.
Sometimes the greatest risk of all is never taking one at all.
There is no replacement for displacement!".
