 Joe Gillespie

Joe Gillespie drives the #4 Open Wheel Modified Class car.  His home track is Kankakee Speedway but he can also be found racing at LaSalle Speedway, Fairbury Speedway, Peoria Speedway, Spoon River Speedway, Shadyhill Speedway, Charleston Speedway and Kokomo Speedway.  He does a lot of traveling around the Midwest.  He lives in Ashkum, IL.

Team members helping Joe are:  David Janssen, Karl Hokansen, Pat Gillespie - Dad.  Pat Gillespie is the car owner.

Joe started racing in 2003 in the Go Karts Class at Boswell Speedway because it looked like a lot of fun.  His first win was in '03 in the Go Karts Class at Kankakee Speedway.  Career highlights include National Midwest Burris Series Champion, finishing in the Top 5 in the Indoor National Championship in Tunica, Mississippi, back to back Twin 20's and Dirt Classic wins, first win in the Modified, which was the B-Main at Peoria Speedway.

The thrill of racing for Joe is the speed and being on the edge.  His most exciting racing moment was running the high side for his first time at Kankakee Speedway.  He's most proud of his first win in the Modified in his first season at Peoria Speedway.  Awesome night!

Joe's racing heroes are Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch.

Of racing, Joe says, "You spend countless hours behind the scenes preparing your equipment (usually 20-30 hours a week).  Never give up, no matter how hard it gets!".
