Steve Phillips drives the #24s Modified
Class car. His home track is Macon Speedway but he can also be
found racing at Clay County Speedway, Fayette County Speedway,
Charleston Speedway, Farmer City Raceway, Highland Speedway and
Vermillion County Speedway. He lives in Neoga, IL.
Team members helping Steve are:
Chad Foster, Josh Baker, Mark Dodd.
Steve started racing in 2000 in the
Street Stock Class at Charleston Speedway after being a race fan for
years, going to Macon Speedway when he was young, he always wanted to
race a Modified. Well he finally made it. His first win was
in 2001 in the Super Street Stock Class at Charleston Speedway.
Career highlights include, while only racing 12 times in '06, he made
the WOO Show at Farmer City Raceway, the Wolf Pack Show at Highland in a
new car, won his Heat race at Clay County Speedway the first night he
raced in 2006, 3 Heat wins in nine attempts at Macon Speedway in 2005,
finished runner-up in the Sportsman Division in '03 at Clay County
Speedway with 3 Heat wins, 3 Feature wins and finished 2nd by 12 points.
The thrill of racing for Steve is being
a weekend warrior and racing competitively with the guys he grew up
idolizing (the Jim and Jeff Leka's, Denny Schwartz). His most
exciting racing moment was his first win in a Modified. That had
always been his main goal. Now his new goal is some Feature wins.
He's most proud of being a very low budget racer. He's built 5
different cars in 6 years. Starting with a Street Stock and ending
with his '03 Lightning Modified. Just knowing that with what money
he has to work with and the results he's able to get. That is
encourage enough for him to keep going! One of these days he will
impress someone or land that big sponsor, if he keeps working hard and
set his goals at an achievable level. You have to crawl before you
walk and you have to walk before you run!
Steve's racing hero is Jeff Gordon.
Of racing, Steve says, "Support your
local Dirt Track. This is where it all started .....on Dirt!
I'm a NASCAR fan, but, you will not find the Door to Door, in your face
type of racing you can get at your local Dirt Track in any NASCAR racing
event. We need the support from all the local Race Track fans to
help keep tracks like Macon going. Without you, we can't do what
we all love....racin. White knuckle, heart pumping action that
draws you to the track each and every weekend. Please come out and
support us, our sponsors and your local Dirt Track! Never stop
dreaming! Then chase those dreams! Life is strange.
One minute you're on the outside looking in. Next thing you know,
you're right in the middle of things mixing it up with everyone else.
You may one day have the opportunity to do exactly what you've always
dreamed you could do!
