Champions
Greg Deters – Factory Stock
Consistency Key to Success for
Deters
Despite only one win in the 2004
Factory Stock season, Centralia driver Greg Deters still captured a
convincing point’s championship in the class. While a number of champions
make a living in the winner’s circle, Deters obtained his championship
with a workmanlike effort that could be the prototypical model for
consistency.
Deters’ Point Championship caps
off a five year run that mimics the consistency in which he claimed the
top spot. Including 2004, Deters has now finished in every spot in the
top five in points over the last five years. (1st – 2004, 2nd
– 2001, 3rd – 2002, 4th – 2003, 5th –
2000)
In his season of consistency that
featured one win at the end of July, there was no shortage of top five and
top ten finishes on the season. In 32 races for the Factory Stocks this
season, Deters finished the year with one win, 13 top fives, and 27 top
tens; a stat that no doubt led Deters to the 2004 Championship. His
consistency was so overwhelming that he captured the title with one point
race still remaining.
Deters wasn’t the only Centralia
driver to fair well this season, twins Leif and Eric Weyer finished second
and fifth respectively, giving the small Kansas town three of the top five
spots in the Factory Stock points standings.
