Johnny Kelly II

Johnny Kelly II drivers the #80 Limited Late model and races out of Pontooc MS. Corinth Speedway is his home track but he also races at Moulton Speedway in AL.

Johnny started racing in 1989 in a street stock at Chickasaw Speedway in Ms. He started becasue it was a Family Tridition. Johnny is a  the third generatuin driver to win dirt track races in his family.

Johnny got his first win and a street stock at Pine Ridge MS. in 1990.   In 1993 he won the MS Outlaw State Championship Series. In 1996 he was second in the Winfield AL Outlaw Series.  He was teh 2002 Pine ridge Late Model Stock Cgampion.

The thrill of racing for Johnny is Driving a car to it's limits and hanging on for the ride.  His greatest racing thrill is Seeing the Late Model Stock Series grow from 1 track to multiple tracks and states.

He is most proud of coming up with and starting an economical Late Model Class. Our first success was the Late Model Class in 2002 that in some part is still active today. The rules were changed by the tracks and it's affordability went away. Now we have started a new class and we have seen it blossom in one year to a 16 car field with more cars being built to join in. The special thing is we (the class) has control of the rules this time and hope to keep it that way. Keeping the cost down and the thrill of driving a Late Model affordable for all.

Johnny's racing hero: James (Pop) Fancher.

Tell about Racing: When I first started driving, we bought a street car from James (Pop) Fancher. He told me at that time "Race for the love of racing. Not for winning, but therefore the love of the sport. You will enjoy it for a lifetime whether you are running for 1st or last." I have enjoyed my racing carrier under that believe. If you are in racing or looking to get started into racing, I only suggest that you do it for the love of the sport and those around you.

Quote: Winning is NOT everything. I would say it is the Love of the sport and those around you
