Big Jim Kelley
#K-7
Big Jim Kelley drives the #K-7 Super
Late Model Class car. He lives in Newport, NC. His home track
is Southern National Speedway but he can also be found racing at Concord
Motorsports Park , Wake County Speedway, East Carolina Speedway, and
Coastal Plains Raceway.
He started racing in 1979 in the 6 Cyl
Class at Parder County because he loved racing. His Dad put him in a
race car so Jim wouldn't get killed in the Dune Buggy he built at the age
of 14 in the salvage yard! His first win was in 1982 in the Late
Model at Wilson County Speedway. Jim has had 178 career wins, 18
Track Championships in Late Model and Sportsman and he was the NASCAR Late
Stock Champion in 2000 at Southern National Speedway.
The thrill of racing for Jim is going fast
and winning! The most exciting racing moment for Jim was winning Big
10 Series last race in 1996....last race with Henry Furr. He's most
proud of his wins, Championships and the family race team.
Richard Petty is Jim's racing hero.
Of racing, Jim says, "Go fast and turn
left!".
