Hugh Ray drives the Super Street #5 . He's from Whiteville, NC.
Dublin is his home track but
he can also be found racing at Lakeview,Myrtle Beach and Fayetteville.
Hugh started racing in 1982 in the 6 Cyl
class at Conway, SC. because his uncle raced and his Dad built his
cars. Hugh's first win was in 1985 in the 6 Cyl at Carolina
Speedway. ". Super
Street Championship at Myrtle Beach in 1986, Super Street Championships at
Dublin in 1986 and 1987. In 2001 he was
2nd in the points at Myrtle Beach in the 4 Cyl.
His career highlight was leading
every lap in 1985...."something about winning with your own
stuff......just me and Daddy!
Hugh won the 2007 Super Street class
Championship at Dublin driving for Louis "Butch"Hill from Conway, SC.
The thrill of racing for Hugh is
"Nothing like it. I feel like I can drive a race car and just love
driving a race car!". His greatest racing thrill was getting in
the car the first time and his uncle hooking him up! His greatest
racing moment was in the early 90's coming in 3rd at Fayetteville in the
Late Model and winning the Sportsmanship Trophy!
Crew includes Butch Hill, Owner, Jimmy
Doyle, Jackie Russ and Bobby King.
Hugh's racing hero is Ed Ray!
Hugh says, "One thing has always
stood out to me...Other Dad's would lecture......my Dad would slap me on
the back and say "win or lose, we will always go home
friends". I still think about that every time I race!
