Dean started racing in 1997 in the 5 HP Live Axel Go Kart Class at Cowtown Speedway because his Dad got him interested in it.  His first win was that same year.  Career highlights include 2001 INEX Texas State Bandolero Bandits Points Champion and National Points Champion, 2002 & 2003 Texas IMCA Nationals Race winner in Junior Mini Stock Division, 2004 Texas Legends Rookie of the Year, 2005 INEX Legends Touring Series Championship Pro Division Recipient of the '05 Bilstein Madonne Award.

Dean's racing hero is his Dad, Randy Abbey.

Of racing, Dean says, "It is fun and you get a lot of different experiences that you don't get from other sports!".
