Kurt Thorpe
#99
Kurt Thorpe drives the #99 IMCA Modified
Class car. He lives in Monroe, NC. His home track is 311
Speedway but he can also be found racing at Thunder Valley Speedway.
He started racing in 1984 in the Spectator
Class at Stateline Speedway in NY, because he was a "gear head" as a kid
and his Father, relatives and friends raced. His first win was in
1984 in the Spectator Class at Stateline Speedway. Kurt has had over
75 wins at 8 tracks, winning with not as much motor or money as others he
raced against.
The thrill of racing for Kurt is the
competition and the gratification of building something that performs of
the track. His most exciting racing moment was growing up in a
racing town, Sugar Grove, PA, and running with a group of friends that
he's still close with today. He's most proud of having his step son
become interested in the sport and helping Kurt in the shop.
Kurt's racing heroes are his Dad and
Richard Petty.
Of racing, Kurt says, "It takes the same
skills to work on the short track cars as Nascar stuff. But we just
don't get the money, we get the personal satisfaction!".
