Jimmy Byrd

Jimmy Byrd drives the #K3 Modified 4 Cyl Class car.  He lives in Apex, NC.  His home track is Wake County Speedway.

He started racing in 1987 in the Stock 4 Class at Wake County Speedway because he'd always wanted to.  His first win was in 1989 in the Stock 4 Class at Wake County Speedway.  Jimmy was Track Champion in 1991 and 1992.  He was runner up in 1990. Jimmy ran Late Models in 1993 and then went back to Modifieds in 1994.

The thrill of racing for Jimmy is the speed.  He loves it!  His most exciting racing moment was when he had been racing another guy hard for the lead the entire race and the other guy spun Jimmy in the last lap but Jimmy finished by crossing the line backwards!  He's most proud of winning the Points Championship in '92 as it was Wake County Speedway's 30 Anniversary. 

Dale Earnhardt is Jimmy's racing hero.

Of racing, Jimmy says, "It's like a drug.  Don't start or you will be hooked!".
