Dean began racing in 1997 in the Limited Late Model class at Fayetteville Motor Speedway because he always wanted to race a dirt track. His first win was in 1998.

Some of his career highlights include: Limited Late Model Champion 1998 at Fayetteville Motor Speedway; Feature Winner, May, 2001, at Carolina Speedway; and Feature Winner,April,2002, at Carolina Speedway.
