Matthew Cauthen
#18
Matthew Cauthen drives the #18 Pure Street
Class car. He lives in Kershaw, SC. His home track is
Lancaster Speedway but can also be found racing at Sumter Speedway.
Team members helping Matthew are:
Kenneth, Knox, Kevin, Buck and Cheeks. Kenneth Cauthen is the car
owner.
He started racing in 2002 in the Pure
Street Class at Lancaster because he enjoyed going to the races and
watching so decided to try it himself. His first win was that same
year. Career highlights include getting two trophies in one
night....one for his first win and one for finishing 4th in the Points
in 2005.
The thrill of racing for Matthew was
flipping his car one week and coming back the next week, side by side
racing, bouncing off the wall and winning his first race with a flat
tire! His most exciting racing moment was winning his first race
with his Mom and Dad and friends watching after flipping the week
before. He won with no front fender, no bumper and a right rear
flat tire! He's most proud of he and his Father working together
to do most of the work themselves.
Dale Earnhardt Sr. is Matthew's racing hero.
Of racing, Matthew says, "Sit back and
hold on. Nobody knows the thrill of a race track until you are
behind the wheel and going wide open!".
