John Smothers drives the #1 Dirt Dobbler 4 Class car.  His home track is Mileback Speedway but he can also be found racing at Modoc Speedway.  He lives in Ware Shoals, SC.

Team members helping John are:  J R, Papa, Jan, Scott, Jamie, Uncle Mike Kernells - Crew Chief. 

John started racing in 1985 in the Bomber Class at Laurens Speedway after being on the crew for his Uncle Mike in Late Models from the age of 1 year old.  His first win was in '97 in the Stock 4 Class at I-20 Speedway.  Career highlights include 2 wins in '07 at Modoc Speedway, finishing 2nd in the Points at Lavonia Speedway, 6 wins so far in '08 at Mileback Speedway and the current Points leader.

The thrill of racing for John is that it's all good!  His most exciting racing moment was winning races in front of his heroes - Papa, Uncle Mike and Granddad.  He's most proud of his talent of getting the most out of whatever car he is driving at the time.

John's racing hero is Mike Kernells #9 Late Model Sportsman.
